00:00Hello everybody, how's it going? Welcome to today's daily update for Newcastle World.
00:04The first half of the video today we're going to be talking about Lloyd Kelly. Yes,
00:08I don't know if any of you were watching the Champions League last night. Juventus,
00:13they went into the second leg with a 2-1 aggregate win over PSV Eindhoven and crashed
00:18out in brutal fashion now. Skipping back to last week for the first leg, Lloyd Kelly was getting
00:24panned by the Italian press, you know, they were saying some pretty brutal things about his
00:29performance. I don't know if anybody watched it, I managed to catch the highlights. Ivan Perisic,
00:36some of you might be thinking, how is he still playing, he must be about 40 odd,
00:39skinned Lloyd Kelly for the first goal and there was a few Juventus quotas on social media
00:45starting to already question that move, that's set to be an obligation next summer,
00:49or is it? We'll get on to that just in a little bit. But yeah, so last night, fast forward a week
00:56from the first leg and Juventus crashed out. Lloyd Kelly played 120 minutes and Juventus
01:02couldn't hold on, they got done in extra time. Now it's been leaked by reports in Italy,
01:09the permutations of the deal with Newcastle and how much of an obligation is it? And if the Italian
01:14media is to be believed, I know sometimes I can be a little bit dubious, but they seem to be
01:20claiming that as long as Juventus qualify for UEFA competition next season, whether that be the
01:26Conference League, the Europa League or the Champions League, that would be enough to
01:30guarantee Newcastle that £20 million that was agreed last month, which would be a good deal for
01:37Newcastle, a player who barely kicked a ball after being signed on a free transfer from Bournemouth.
01:42So yeah, just looking at the Sevilla table at the minute, Juventus are sitting fourth,
01:48level on points with fifth place Lazio, but there's a five point cushion there between
01:53themselves and seventh spot, which depending on cup competition should guarantee a Conference
01:59League. So you would expect, I know everybody was saying the deal was done, it's definitely
02:03going to happen in the summer, you would still expect that it's likely to happen that Juventus
02:08are going to qualify for Europe. Another defender who dominated the transfer talk around these parts
02:12last summer, Mark Grie. Now we all know the story, Newcastle tried and failed several times to get
02:19Mark Grie last summer. So Newcastle will understand the £65 million figure that was reported at the
02:25time, it wasn't quite that, it wasn't quite at them levels. We know that Steve Powis demanded,
02:30the Palace Chairman Steve Powis demanded super strong money for Grie. Obviously on the back of
02:35Euro 2024 was never quite at the £65 million. That had been doing the rounds at the time.
02:41Tottenham Hotspur tried a cheeky bid last month in the January transfer window.
02:46Obviously Mark Grie, he's a good player, England international, but he's in a precarious contract
02:52situation. You know he's got 18 months left to run, that'll dwindle down to a year in the summer.
02:57And the Mirror now report that Chelsea at the front of the queue.
03:00As far as where, as far as our understanding on the Newcastle World Desk, the interest has
03:06sort of cooled in Grie a little bit. As you can imagine with the new regime at St James' Park,
03:11they like to keep everything tight lipped. Sort of got an arm's length interest there,
03:16everybody knows his contract situation, they know how much Palace were demanding for Grie a year ago.
03:22And they're in a little bit of a rock and a horn place Palace at the minute. He's probably
03:27the prized SN at the club. And what do they do? Do they risk his contract dwindling down
03:34and lose it for nothing? He's 24 year old, he'd still get decent money from him.
03:39But that could draw his feet closer to Newcastle's valuation last year, which
03:44at first off I was believed to be around the £45 million mark.
03:49But as it stands, the Mirror and Chelsea are leading the charge now. It's common knowledge
03:55that Chelsea have a close. Grie graduated from Chelsea's academy before moving to Palace in 2021.
04:03Chelsea have a close where any club that comes in for him, you know, and Chelsea have an agreement
04:09to sort of match that. So that, with that sort of de facto sell-on closing made, the Mirror reported
04:17that Chelsea would be in the front of the queue if Grie does move this sum out. It could be
04:21one to watch for Newcastle. You know the centre-half situation at the minute. Lloyd Kelly was obviously
04:26sold earlier this month. Fabian Scherr's approach at 34, Dave Byrne's approach at 33. They've got a
04:34lot of left-sided options there. Byrne's left-sided centre-half, Fabian Scherr's a left-sided
04:39centre-half, all right-sided centre-half, and Sven Botwin's a left-sided centre-half. So you're
04:44looking really for that long-term successor for Scherr on the right side of Newcastle's defence.
04:48Yeah, Mark Gray, his name cropped up again today, but it's not something I would expect
04:53yet to hear a new story break and if Newcastle slap in a big bid in or make an approach. That
04:59goes for any player anytime soon. I think there's a lot of Newcastle's playing right now.
05:03Huge Premier League running coming up with Champions League qualification up for grabs.
05:07Obviously they've got the Carabao Cup final that's dominating everybody's agenda at the minute.
05:13Right now they'll be doing all the nitty-gritty work preparing for the transfer window,
05:17getting a plan involved. I wouldn't expect any breaking news on that one anytime soon,
05:22but like I said, perhaps one to keep an eye on.
