Talking to the band Yard Act
Transcript
00:00How's your year been so far? Obviously last year was all about the new record, came out in March
00:06last year didn't it? So how's the year been so far? Have you had sort of a chance to calm down
00:12a little bit? Yeah we've definitely had more of a chance to sort of be in our own beds and stuff
00:19but we've been quite at it haven't we? Working on new material and stuff but yeah definitely
00:27nice to be in Leeds for a bit. What was the reception like? Obviously the second
00:32album often get a lot of pressure don't it? Yep. So what was the reception been like and
00:40how sort of how did last year go? Yeah it went pretty pretty good I'd say. Yeah. I was
00:47pretty chuffed. People always say like oh second album it's difficult but like the
00:52first time was difficult because you're doing something and you really want it
00:55to go alright and then the second album's difficult because you don't want to like
00:59mess up the second record after you've like got a big profile from the first and
01:05now the third record is being said that it's like really important and it'll never end. Yeah.
01:10I keep telling you every time. Yeah when do albums not get difficult anymore? Maybe album 11?
01:14It's basically when you've already when you've already just faded into obscurity that's when it
01:20yeah yeah. A difficult 11th album. Yeah. That's a difficult one. So what was been the highlights? Is there any sort of specific particular memory that stands out?
01:30The Glastonbury show on the last run was was pretty good. It's good to see it filmed and that. Yeah.
01:37Yeah. There's been loads of highlights let me just have a think. Millennium Square? Millennium Square of course yeah.
01:45God that was really something that one actually. Yeah. Because sometimes with festival shows even when they're important you sort of get just get into a flow but that one was very flow obstructing that was like oh my god this is really big.
01:56Yeah yeah. Yeah I really hope this goes all right. And like normally festival is the financial part but you never see but like I saw all the figures and it was like oh my god I hope no one like is ill or whatever.
02:09Yeah. Is it different to playing Leeds considering you sort of you know you're a Leeds based band does that make it different to players there extra pressure?
02:17Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. For sure. Like I think all of us had like especially in the Millennium Square show we all had like close friends, family.
02:26Yeah. Yeah. There. And I think that adds a completely different level of yeah pressure in the sense of well I find that more pressured than playing in front of a crowd of people you don't know.
02:43Yeah. Yeah. But um yeah. It's a big naked show and it feels like such a like a privilege to be able to block off a central part of a city to play stupid music. Yeah yeah.
02:56So like do we have the right and earlier that day there was a big like right wing demonstration marching through this. Yeah. Just around the corner.
03:03Yeah. And I went to it and like those things that you know with those demonstrations I haven't in the past that they they're the kind that make you sort of feel a little bit vulnerable in the city like you question about whether you should leave the demonstration on your own stuff like that and and then so feeling like that and then coming into like Millennium Square I was like oh my god this is really like this is this is a this is a very exposed thing like you can even watch the show from outside of the square can't you?
03:30Yeah yeah yeah so yeah but yeah it went really well we were really chuffed with it yeah.
