Transcript
00:00Hi there, it's John Blow from the Yorkshire Post here. I'm going to take you through some
00:03of the things coming up in the week ahead. Politics will be dominated by Chancellor Rachel
00:10Reeves delivering the Labour government's first budget since the election this week.
00:15The MP for Leeds West, Anne Pudsey, will address the House of Commons on Wednesday. Since entering
00:20office in summer earlier this year, Labour have been pointing to a £22bn black hole
00:24in public finances. Meanwhile, the Conservative Party will appoint a new leader to replace
00:29Richmond MP Rishi Sunak on Saturday. The final two candidates, Kemi Badenoch and Robert
00:35Jenrick, were picked by the Parliamentary Party, but the new leader is chosen through
00:39an online ballot of Conservative Party members, which will close on Thursday.
00:45Elsewhere, Diwali, the festival of lights, begins from Thursday, which means millions
00:51of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world will be celebrating. The occasion is marked
00:55by fireworks and lights, bright colours, parties, dancing, gifts, fine clothing and
01:00feasts. It coincides, of course, with Halloween, meaning there will also be youngsters in fancy
01:06dress enjoying themselves by knocking on doors, trick-or-treating.
01:10An environmental group supporting bodies and campaigners will take to the streets of London
01:15to participate in the March for Clean Water. Virgil Sharkey, Bear Grylls and Chris Packham
01:20will be joining a wide range of groups, including River Action, Greenpeace, the Wildlife
01:25Trust, British Rowing and British Canoeing, for the protest on Sunday.
