One postal employee took it upon himself to deal with the mail that never stops.

According to police, Washington man, Richard Farrell used a backhoe to bury undelivered mail in a trench. In all started in 2010, when fellow postal workers reportedly witnessed Farrell trashing mail in a recycling bin.

An investigation was launched and it was discovered that instead of delivering the mail, Farrell spent his time at the bar while on the clock. He took the mail home and either buried it or burned it in a fire pit.

8,000 additional pieces of undelivered paperwork were found in his home. He was sentenced to community service and three years probation. Farrell stated “I was lazy, and I became a not very good employee. I just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible.”

In 2008, another postal worker, 58-year-old, Steven M. Padgett pleaded guilty in court to delaying or destroying mail. Postal inspectors were tipped off by a meter reader that Padgett’s home contained a suspicious amount of old mail.

When the house was searched, tens of thousands of pieces of mail were discovered, some nearly a decade old.
