Beached Whale Surprises Residents at French Resort

A French town awaited the arrival of sailing champions. But instead, a beached whale arrives.
A seaside resort in France was expecting the arrival of the first boats in the Vendee Globe sailing competition on Friday (January 25).
But instead, a beached whale showed up.
[Unidentified Bystander]:
"Well, we were actually expecting the arrival of the Vendee Globe, but this is certainly an extra attraction. It's a little sad for the whale, but it's funny to come and see this."
[Unidentified Bystander]:
"It's sad; all the same, because losing a mammal like that is still impressive, it's still a creature that is protected these days."
As for the sailing race, Vendee Globe says the winning team should cross the finish line early on Sunday morning.
