This is what the Bangladeshi capital looked like after a protest by Islamists. Demonstrators rampaged through the city streets, setting fire to buildings and cars. Police fired rubber bullets and tear gas to try and subdue the crowds but found themselves in a several hour street fight.
Many of those who battled with law enforcement had turned out to demand the government adopt harsher blasphemy laws.
It isn't clear how many people were injured. A similar protest a few weeks ago in which Islamists called for bloggers to be put to death, also ended in violence.
