Chungking Is CHONGQING!

On October 21st 2011 we flew from Lhasa Tibet to Chongqing (prior to 1997 Chungking), China’s largest metropolitan district and one of the very largest in the world. We get a passing view of the sprawling mostly modern city as we bus in from the airport. Our first stop is the Flying Tigers Museum, headquarters for the United States’ China-Burma operations in World War II. It is located on the heights above the Jainling River, a tributary of the Asia’s largest river, the Yangtze. In late afternoon we make our second stop: Chongqing’s ultra-modern upscale “Liangjiang New City” commercial district. Even with the corruption scandals (which we learned of only after we arrived back home) associated with Chongqing’s recent boom, we have to be impressed because it truly is a city that has risen from the ashes of near total destruction in WWII.

This video is Part 8 of our China – And How! adventure. Next, Part 9: we will board a river boat for a Yangzte Cruise that will take us to the famous gorges and massive high dam.
