Romney targets economy in White House bid

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney continued to target the economy in his White House bid telling NBC's Meet the Press Sunday that he would not raise taxes and that the recovery has fallen far short of expectations.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE MITT ROMNEY, SAYING:
"I am not going to raise taxes on the American people. Our problem in our country is not that we're not paying enough taxes. It's that we're spending too much money and the economy is not growing as it could and should. Look, we've just watched another month of tepid job numbers. This does not look like a recovery. "
Polls show U.S. President Barack Obama with the edge in the race for the White House, but the recent employment report showing anemic job growth could give a boost to Romney, who is making his business experience a centerpiece of his campaign.
On the social front Romney also weighed in on abortion rights.

"I hope to appoint justices for the Supreme Court that will follow the law and the constitution. And it would be my preference that they reverse Roe V. Wade and therefore they return to the people and their elected representatives the decisions with regards to this important issue."
The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll daily tracking poll on Saturday showed Obama, a Democrat, widening his national lead over Romney to 4 points.
