John Reid has been an Uilleann Piper for 30 years. This man has a keen intrest in experimenting with existing design's to develop the Uilleann Pipes into the 21st Century. For example, Investigation into the equations for the Placement of Tone Holes on Concert Flutes and Simple Flutes. Currently working on building a forge to make Keys for the Regulators.

He is the grandson of the late Sean Reid, a famous piper, organiser and Engineer see http://www.seanreidsociety.org/

his Father Joseph Reid is also Making C Natural Pitched Pipes.

He has source Natural Woods from Mills in Ireland, such as Boxwood and more recently Pearwood, The main source of wood used in manufacturing the pipes is African Backwood and ebony.

He has Spent many of his early teens Learning music by ear from the old stock musicians in Inagh in west Clare to Scariff in east Clare. His was also in a choir for 16 years. John Reid knowledge in pipe maker comes his 20 year Engineer Background and from His father 40 year toolmaking knowledge. In his twenties John Reid early spent time as a Machinist on CNC Lathes and Mills. Recently he acquired a Masters in Renewable Energy. The workshop for making Uilleann Pipes is situated on an acre site with a nice view of the Galtee Mountains.
