PRESENTED BY LAYLA ANNA-LEE

John Mullin is from Omagh, Northern Ireland. He grew up in a small town listening to his fathers vast album collection filled with everything from Sam Cooke to Joy Division. This collection inspired him to learn both guitar and piano. John gravitated towards a variety of influences including Nick Drake, Shane Mac Gowan, The Smiths, Curtis Mayfield, Nick Cave, and Bob Dylan. The people who inspire me now are the honest writers, Jack White, Fleet Foxes, Bright Eyes. When you hear their records you know they are doing it for the right reasons. At 18, he moved to Liverpool and started his first band, The Basement, whose first single garnish press accolades and was single of the week at Radio One. When The Basement disbanded, John started work on his solo project. With help from Bill Ryder-Jones, formally of The Coral, he began recording songs at Elevator studios. The end result was an acoustic blend of folk and rock with Celtic roots. Four of these songs became the The always on the Outside of... EP - out now!
