Foxconn salary increases put pressure on other firms

Factory bosses in China are coming under pressure to follow the lead of Foxconn and raise salaries. Foxconn recently announced a second wage increase for workers at its Shenzhen factory after a spate of recent suicides, which combined with an earlier raise, totals an overall increase of 122%. Faced with the prospect of lower margins or unhappy workers, factory bosses find themselves in a difficult situation.
