Flooding continues in southern China today with the death toll continuing to rise. The big concerns are swelling rivers that have forced thousands to evacuate.
The death toll for the floods in southern China have now risen to 90, with 22 more people still missing. The heavy rains have caused rivers in nine provinces to overflow, and the damage is now over $4 billion, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
Hardest hit are Sichuan, Henan and Shaanxi provinces, with 29,000 homes submerged. Mudslides and landslides caused by the rain have destroyed homes as well as roads. Nearly a million people are evacuated at the moment.
It's the worst flooding Shaanxi has seen in fifty years. Water levels in Sichuan Province's Qujiang River have hit an all-time high, 22 feet over the danger level.
A total of more than forty rivers have exceeded danger water levels, according to China's Meteorological Administration. Rain is expected to continue through the weekend.
