Massive Fire Engulfs Chemical Factory in Northern India

Flames have engulfed a chemical factory in western India, destroying goods worth millions of rupees. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

A major fire broke out overnight in a chemical factory that manufactures plastic pouches in Kanpur City of India's Uttar Pradesh state on Thursday. Workers say within minutes the fire spread to the entire factory.

About 13 fire trucks were rushed to the scene.

[Sheevdarsh, Fire Officer]:
"A fire broke out in this plastic factory. Fire trucks arrived here as soon as we were informed about the incident. We have asked for more fire trucks. We are dousing the fire and trying to bring it under control."

Many workers were working inside the factory when the flames broke out, but no casualties have been reported.

It destroyed goods worth millions of rupees.

The cause of fire is not yet certain.
