India-Pakistan Border on High Security Alert After Killing of bin Laden

Security has been beefed up along the India-Pakistan border in India's northern state of Punjab after the killing of Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden. Rail and road links are also under strict surveillance to stop infiltration by Pakistan-based militants.
Security personnel are on high alert along the India-Pakistan border, particularly at Wagah Border following the killing of al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden by U.S. troops in Pakistan.
Rail and road links are also under tight surveillance.
Arrivals from Pakistan are monitored in case any Pakistan-based militants try to infiltrate India disguised as tourists or businessmen.
[Syed Mohammad Akhtar, Customs and Central Excise]:
"We are very alert on this issue because we know the implications of the kind of security arrangements which have to be put in place. We are looking not only from the security angle but also from the angle of anti-smuggling also."
Travelers do not seem to mind the extra security checks. They believe the measures are important in ensuring the safety of people from both countries.
[Sanna Butt, Pakistani Actress]:
"There should be a bond of friendship between both the countries. Security reason is good as it is concerns our lives, it is good for us if the security is tightened. Security should be there so that anti-social elements should not be successful in their activities; otherwise nationals of both the countries who are very loving would suffer."
Indian villages in Punjab have come under rocket attacks by Pakistan-based militants at least four times since July 2009.
