This is the 21st year of the Agricultural Exhibition in the city of Tel Aviv in Israel. The exhibition displays a multitude of innovations in the area of agricultural products while at the background are the increase in food prices and the apprehension of the spreading of famine in the world. Our reporter has more.

For the last 21 years, the Agro-Mashov exhibition has introduced a variety of new technologies… and shed the spotlight on food crises affecting people across the globe.

Representatives from all over the world arrived to attend the event held last week in Tel Aviv, Israel.

One of the most prominent groups was the Palestinian delegation… 400 representatives headed by the Palestinian Authority’s Minister of Agriculture.

[Dr. Ismail Daiq, Palestinian Minister of Agriculture]:
“If we were to invest more funds in finding a solution to the shortage of food, the world would save the expense of feeding those for whom there is not enough food.”

It seems there is no single solution for the food crisis, but there are several methods that can tackle the problem. Among them, genetic engineering of food, using advanced irrigation methods, and above all, emphasis on cooperation between countries.

[Haim Alloush, Exhibition Director]:
“The world has to decide to move forward with genetic engineering which doubles and triples the agricultural crops.”

The shortage of water is already being felt in vast areas of the world.

[Haim Alloush, Exhibition Director]:
“70% of the water in the world is used in agriculture. In Israel, 95% of the agriculturists irrigate using dropper systems, as opposed to 8-9% of agriculturists in the rest of the world. This is very wrong. The technology exists, the knowledge is there, yet the world uses it very little. There should be a shift in the way people think.”
