And now we go to Dubai to see a celebration of the world’s cultures at the 15th annual Global Village festival. Here's more from our correspondent.

The world in a nutshell. That’s what visitors to the Global Village multicultural festival in Dubai got a taste of over the course of this 4-month-long celebration of the world’s cultures.

Every evening the Global Village pavilions come to life to give event-goers a glimpse into another world. A world of exotic traditions and ethnic song and dance.

[Irakli, Rustavi Ensemble Dancer]:
“It’s our traditions, it comes from a long, long time ago in our country. Every dance is similarly [connected] with a celebration. You can see there is the marriage, the fight the culture of fighting, some special tricks…”

The festival shows the history of different countries through movement and music.

[Georgian Performer, Rustavi Ensemble]:
“Each dance has a history and all together they make up the history of Georgia.”

In some cultures, people use dance to celebrate the stages of life, like becoming an adult, marriage and death.

[Michael O. Owug, Choreographer of Sanalimu Art Production]:
“For us we are really happy to show people how Africa is, the dances that were being performed today are all about the initiation, first started by the initiation of girls to women, then we see the strong men and also the warriors who are ready to protect them, are showcasing themselves.”

Visitors to the festival could also buy authentic wares from other countries and sample ethnic food.

The Global Village festival started out 15 years ago as a few kiosks selling products and handicrafts from around the world. Now it’s become a major tourist attraction.

This year’s event brought in an estimated 4.5 million visitors.

It seems the saying “It’s a small world, after all” rings true in Dubai.
