Just a normal day in the lion yard... until... SPASH

I was filming this last week at the Smithsonian National Zoo when a squirrel fell into the moat! If you have the sound up you can hear the splash at the end. A huge rescue effort was undertaken after it became apparent that the young squirrel could not get out by himself. It was running on the outer ledge and the keepers were trying to get it with nets (after they let the lions in for the day). Finally it ran into an overflow area an then into an HVAC room. It was later caught and spent the night on a heating pad before being released the next day.
