Heavy Rains Cause Floods in Sri Lankan Capital

It’s the worst flooding the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo has seen in 18 years. The city received about 17 inches of rain from Wednesday evening until early Thursday morning.

Power was disrupted throughout the city.

Parliament sessions were cancelled due to the floods.

And the government postponed year-end examinations in Colombo schools.

Heavy rainfall was also reported in the northwestern and southern districts of the city.

Monsoon season in Sri Lanka usually falls between May and September, and again from December to February.
