Aid Slow to Reach Indonesia Tsunami Survivors

The death toll from a tsunami that swept across the Mentawai Islands in Indonesia climbed to 394, with 338 still missing on Friday.

The southern tip of the island was 31 miles away from the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that triggered the 10-foot-high waves.

Scores of homes in fishing villages were destroyed.

Boats with aid deliveries were thwarted by big waves and bad weather.

Rescuers must comb through vast areas to search for missing people.

The Sumatra Disaster Relief Agency said at least 23-thousand villagers have been evacuated to the town of Sikakap.
