Extreme Water Shortage Plagues India’s Western Rajasthan

There is precious little water for the residents in Chandelao village in India's western Rajasthan state due to a lack of rain.

Local residents wait in line for hours at a time to get water from a couple of wells.

[Raju, Chandelao Village Resident]: (Marware, male)
"There is a huge water crisis in the village. There are only two sources of water in the village, which have dried up. For filling water from those sources, we have to wait in line for four to five hours, and then also there is just 10-15 liters of water (per villager) available for the entire village."

The long wait in line to fill their vessels often results in fights among the villagers.

Pipelines have been laid in the village but so far they have not carried any water.

Public Works officials have not commented on the matter.
