Storm Lashes Perth with Heavy Rain and Hail

In Australia, one of the biggest storms hit the Perth suburbs in years. The storm brought extraordinary amounts of rain and hail, triggering floods and leaving thousands of homes without power.

A sudden storm hit the suburbs of Perth, Australia during the evening rush hour on Tuesday, bringing heavy rain, hail, and wind gusts up to 75 mph, .

Weather experts say more than four times the monthly average of rain poured in just two hours.

“That's the first time we have seen rain in Perth since we have been over here. We are on holidays, we came over in December, that's the first time we have seen rain and that's an awful lot of rain to see in one go.”

Main roads were flooded and hail balls damaged cars and homes.

A mudslide near a residential building forced tenants to evacuate and stay at a temporary shelter.

The cost of damage could reach into the hundreds of millions of dollars.

More than 100-thousand homes lost power following the storm.
