Po niedawnym faceliftingu modelu Colt mogło być zaskoczeniem, że z oferty znikła wersja wysokoprężna. Na decyzję wpłynęły trzy zasadnicze czynniki – modernizacja turbodiesla tak, by pełnił normę emisyjną Euro 5 była technicznie nie do zrealizowania, popularność tej wersji nie była największa (od roku 2004 tworzyła zaledwie 13 % sprzedaży), a inwestycja do nowego turbodiesla była dla większości klientów nieopłacalna.

Hot on the heels of the all-new Lancer family, the recently launched “next generation” Colt confirms Mitsubishi Motors’ strategic evolution, from an SUV-focused nameplate to being a supplier of (non-mainstream) passenger cars and crossovers, with an SUV presence:
-> Passenger cars: Colt + Lancer + Grandis
-> Crossovers: Outlander + forthcoming Concept-cX derived vehicle
-> SUVs: Pajero + L200
Consistent with the latest market trends in Europe towards smaller and more fuel/emission efficient products, this new direction is further supported by the introduction of segment-specific “Low CO2 solutions”, first to be seen with Colt and Lancer:
- B-Segment / Colt: “Low CO2 package” and “Flex Fuel” (FFV) technology, under the “ClearTec” umbrella name.
- C/D-Segments / Lancer: All-new Mitsubishi-developed* 4N13 Euro 5 Diesel engine.
Later on, providing the outcome of the current feasibility studies is positive, the full electric i MiEV urban / suburban car could accompany Colt and Lancer with a specific green solution deemed suitable for the A-Segment in Europe.
