00:00Steve, our radio show's been together for 25 years.
00:03Yeah.
00:04So we've had a lot of experiences over the years.
00:06And don't you love that moment when you've shown up at a place and they go,
00:09Why are you here?
00:10Right, exactly.
00:12I'm sorry, but you are.
00:13Oh, we've had that.
00:14Yeah, yeah.
00:15You're here to do.
00:16So many times you're here to do what?
00:19Yeah.
00:19We have a good friend who is in our studio and we didn't know he was coming in.
00:23It was a little mix up on Casey's part, but it's all good.
00:25We love the man.
00:26We were actually upset and then we heard it was this guy.
00:28And we're like, okay, it's going to be a punchline, ladies and gentlemen.
00:31Two Ray is here.
00:34Thank you so much for having me.
00:35Nice to see you.
00:36And then early, happy birthday.
00:39That's tomorrow, right?
00:40Tomorrow, yeah.
00:40Fellow Gemini.
00:41Gemini season.
00:42Yeah, it was Monday.
00:43It's good.
00:43Happy birthday.
00:44Thank you, man.
00:44Yeah, man.
00:45Be 50 tomorrow.
00:46No kidding.
00:4750.
00:47Yeah.
00:48So that picture is deceiving, but it's almost nice.
00:51It's a huge.
00:53This is a huge birthday.
00:54Yeah.
00:54Yeah.
00:55Yeah, I'm officially, I get AARP mail.
00:58The magazine starts showing up.
01:00You're like, do you sweat the birthdays or do you give a rat's ass?
01:04Nah, not really.
01:04Yeah.
01:05I just, you know, you celebrate them when they're important, I guess, to other people.
01:08Because, you know, 51, you get nothing.
01:10Yeah.
01:11The 49 last year sucked.
01:13This year, it's like, we're going to come out for your birthday.
01:15It's like, no problem.
01:15Whatever.
01:16As long as I can get something, I'll celebrate the ones I get stuff for.
01:19That's right.
01:20Well, you figure you pay into other people's birthdays.
01:22You should get a return.
01:22That's why you go to a wedding.
01:23I'm doing a 50th.
01:25I'm doing a little tacos and tequila at Rosa Mexicana tomorrow in Armor.
01:28Just dinner.
01:28Oh, yeah.
01:29I love that restaurant.
01:30Yeah, it's great.
01:31Can I come?
01:31Yeah.
01:32All right.
01:32Here's why.
01:33Listen.
01:34So, for my 45th, I did a dinner at Relish and I paid for it.
01:38Okay.
01:38You know, I'm black and most of my friends and family are black.
01:41And I literally watched people not eat until I told them, I was like, you know, eat, drink,
01:46and it's all me.
01:47Oh, man.
01:48They were like, oh, oh, oh.
01:49I'm like, so tomorrow you got to bring money.
01:52Okay.
01:54Do you know what, though, to that point?
01:56It's like, at least bring 50 bucks to pay for your meal so we can enjoy ourselves.
01:59When we go out with a group of people, I always offer to pay.
02:03And a lot of that is-
02:05You got the money.
02:06Well, it's predicated also on the fact that if I go out with someone else, I may not order
02:12what I really want because I want to be respectful of their deal.
02:16And I'm like, let's just go.
02:18You know what I'm saying?
02:19Quick story.
02:20And two things.
02:20Like, you know, when we go out, if the guys are out, like, say we go out, me and my friends
02:24and our wives, the guys pay.
02:26No, they don't pay.
02:26We'll just split the check evenly.
02:27Right.
02:28Quick story.
02:29I'm out with a one night at this show at the NJ Pack with DL Hewley.
02:32So, after the show, I go out DL.
02:33Mike Hill from Fox Sports is with him.
02:35And we all have our ladies.
02:37DL has his wife.
02:38So, it's like six of us.
02:39Enough a couple of couples.
02:40So, maybe about seven, eight people at the table.
02:42Check comes.
02:43It's about.
02:43We went to a steak spot in the meat packing district.
02:47All right.
02:47Check comes.
02:48It's about 800.
02:49Wow.
02:49Now, I got it.
02:49Yeah.
02:50I have that in my account.
02:53But it would, you know, it severely impacted next month's bill.
02:56Yeah.
02:56But I'm with my lady, so I didn't want to feel like a hanger on.
03:00Yeah.
03:01You know what I'm saying?
03:01So, it's like, I went to go pull out my credit card.
03:04I can see DL at the end of the table.
03:06Mouthing, don't be ridiculous.
03:09He said, I appreciate it.
03:11I got it.
03:11You know what?
03:12From DL's perspective, do you think, like, he might get tired of taking people out?
03:17Yes.
03:17And then people assume.
03:18Everybody assumes.
03:20I'm just being kind.
03:21I've seen it.
03:22I'm with comedians and, you know, Kevin.
03:24Like, we go out with Kevin.
03:25Kevin Hart.
03:26Kevin is different.
03:27It is a different level.
03:28But they are comedians.
03:29They just assume that.
03:31Like, people just assume it.
03:32Which is rude.
03:33Yes.
03:33And I never want to be that guy.
03:35No, I commend that.
03:37I think that's a wonderful thing.
03:38Especially if I got my lady.
03:39Now, me, I can slide to the side, order salad and water.
03:42But I got my lady.
03:44I don't want to feel like a less than.
03:46You know what I'm saying?
03:46What's the ritual they do?
03:48Is it in the NFL with the rookie player?
03:51Yeah.
03:52They go out?
03:53Who was it?
03:53The Eagles offensive lineman.
03:55They nailed him.
03:56Yes, man.
03:57A couple years ago.
03:58Sean.
03:59I forgot Sean's last name.
04:00The tab was crazy.
04:01200,000.
04:02Because he used to come down to Laugh House.
04:04200 grand on dinner.
04:06I was like, yo.
04:07I wish I would.
04:08Y'all, we'd have been fighting.
04:09Like, they was ordering, like, Cases of Cristal.
04:12Oh, Jesus.
04:13And giving it out to other people in the club.
04:15Like, it's crazy.
04:16I would crap myself.
04:17Yeah, yeah.
04:17So, yeah, I try to.
04:18Being on the road, like, I'm on the road with some more Queen of Comedy, whatever.
04:21And not to say whatever, but Queen of Comedy, she makes a lot.
04:24When I say whatever, I meant to the income bracket.
04:27Right, right, right, yeah.
04:28So, being on, we go out to eat a lot.
04:30So, there are times that she'll go to, say, for example, like Lebec Finn.
04:34But there's also times she goes to Cracker Barrel.
04:37Those are the checks I get.
04:38Yes.
04:39And that's the rule.
04:40Like, get the ones you can get.
04:41Yeah.
04:42When she go to Cracker Barrel, I'm like, I got this.
04:43Cracker Barrel.
04:44You sure you don't have, you sure you don't have extra casserole.
04:48Yeah.
04:48Don't think.
04:49Get you some extra casserole.
04:50It's on me.
04:51You don't know, paying that big bill.
04:54Yes.
04:54Going back to, so, offering.
04:55And then, I feel like sometimes I wake up and it's like, what did I do?
05:01When you do something bad, I'm like, it's not bad.
05:03Pride.
05:04What did you do?
05:04I'm bad.
05:05I had money and pride.
05:06Like, I remember a Cobra on South Street.
05:08I'm in there and, you know, Margarita Mondays.
05:09I'm getting a margarita.
05:10You know, I like Patron.
05:12Yeah.
05:12So, I say, you know, Margarita with Patron.
05:14And she, you know, young lady came back to me and said, like, I'm sorry, the Patron is
05:17a $4, you know, $4 more.
05:19I was like, yeah, $4.
05:19No, I didn't.
05:21But the point is, don't disrespect me.
05:24Go ahead and get that.
05:25We'll worry about that later.
05:26I mean, that's between me and TD Bank.
05:28Yeah.
05:29We'll handle that between the overdraft.
05:31My bank as well.
05:32Yeah.
05:33I've told this story before on air.
05:34I went out years ago.
05:36We were flown out to do the comic relief thing out in L.A.
05:40And I said, oh, this is cool.
05:42I got to go in as part of the radio station.
05:44I'm going to go do that.
05:45And we go to the, I think it was the Hilton and Universal Studios.
05:49I know that.
05:50Right.
05:50So, they had this incredible brunch.
05:53And, you know, I had family out there at the time.
05:56And so, oh, this is very inexpensive.
05:58I didn't realize it was a super special event.
06:01The next day when I show up, Marlo Thomas and their other celebrities like there.
06:06And I'm like, oh, they're here for the super cheap brunch.
06:09And I brought my family.
06:10And the bill came.
06:11And I was like, oh, my God.
06:13It's not a super cheap brunch.
06:14This is horrific.
06:15Yeah.
06:15This is depressing the steam brunch.
06:17It was unbelievable.
06:18It would have been like a hard day's night when you pretend you're a waiter to pick up the.
06:22Yes.
06:23Because it was.
06:24Right.
06:24Oh, man.
06:25It's always good to be out with the rich people.
06:27That's the lesson.
06:28It's always good to be out with the rich people.
06:30Speaking of which, when was the last time you see Kevin Hart?
06:32And do you ever feel nervous about hitting him up?
06:35Because I know you guys have been friends for a long time.
06:36But you don't want to bother those guys either.
06:38Actually, I don't.
06:40It's impossible to hit him.
06:42Yeah.
06:42So I hit this circle and they put us in touch.
06:45But last time when he was here.
06:46Yeah.
06:46And I mean, it's just always like I forget what he is and who he is when we're around.
06:52Because even my lady says, she says, when y'all guys get around each other, it's just like back to old time.
06:56And that's how it is.
06:57You know, but I do under.
06:58Like, when we went to go, when he was here at the Wells Fargo.
07:02That's incredible.
07:03And they take your phones.
07:06Yeah.
07:06And even though I had full access VIP, you know, all access badge, whatever, whatever, they took my phone.
07:12And I'm like, you know, I wonder if they take everybody's phone.
07:14So, you know, because if you somebody, when I see Charlie Mack getting his phone back, I say, OK, they take everybody's phone.
07:21Have you ever written with him or written for him?
07:24For Kevin?
07:25For Kevin, I know he has a lot of people he trusts.
07:28Yeah, yeah.
07:29And my, like, Kevin really was just not so much just.
07:32I started Kevin.
07:33Yeah.
07:34I was like his first mentor.
07:35And then, you know, the rest is, I've been watching him.
07:38Like, I've been learning from him.
07:39Yeah.
07:40And, I mean, he's got a great team around him.
07:43So, I'm sure, you know, there are things that he hits me up for.
07:46Like, when he goes on a special, he will hit me up to watch his set and help punch up certain things.
07:51Because he knows I can do that instantly.
07:54Like, when he came through Punchline last year and he was working on it two years ago.
07:57And he's working on some things, he's like, yo, two, watch my set, tell me, you know.
08:00So, I'm a lot of comedians.
08:01It's flattering.
08:02It's got to be flattering.
08:03It is.
08:03And I appreciate that comedians care that, you know, what I think to help them.
08:07He came in years ago and a couple times.
08:09And right then and there, you know, the first time we had him in, he was, you know, he's doing charitable stuff for the city.
08:16He's a regular guy.
08:17You know, he's obviously joking around.
08:19But he's like, you, there's that really involved side.
08:22And you're like, there's a lot more to this guy.
08:24Yes, he's a great dude.
08:25Yeah, yeah.
08:26It is funny, though.
08:27Like, when you see somebody of that stature and sometimes they'll do Punchline, you know, to work out new material or whatever, you'll be really excited to see them.
08:35And then two minutes in, if they're not doing good jokes, they're not doing good jokes.
08:40Luckily, he doesn't have that.
08:41Of course, yeah.
08:42And I give him that.
08:43Like, you know, for someone as successful as he is, and we all come in through something.
08:48Like, we come in, comedy was our way into a lot of things.
08:50Yeah.
08:51Like, you don't always, once you get to be the millionaire comedian, you don't always have to be as great in comedy.
08:57And a lot of comedians experience that fall off.
08:59He always comes back to comedy.
09:01Like, every year he gives you a special.
09:03And those are the comedians that have longevity.
09:06Those are the Chris Rocks, the Chappelle's.
09:08Because, sure, I got eight movies this year.
09:11But I did another stand-up special.
09:13I concentrated on stand-up.
09:14So, for him, that's always a treat when people come to a club and he walks out on stage and is like, wow, you get to see.
09:21Hasn't it been Eddie Murphy's thing?
09:22So, he was flirting with, coming back.
09:24It looked like he was going to be close to it.
09:26Yep.
09:26I don't blame him.
09:27Yeah.
09:28I don't blame him.
09:29To me, it looks like there's nothing but downside to that.
09:32This is what I tell people whenever they bring up Eddie Murphy.
09:34I'm like, he was raw.
09:35Yeah.
09:36He was 24 years old.
09:38Yeah.
09:38And to me, that's one of the masterpiece comedy.
09:40That's one of the most classic comedy specials ever.
09:43Quoted constantly.
09:44Four.
09:45Yeah.
09:45So, you're not going to get better.
09:47It's not like you're on top of that.
09:49And he said that.
09:50He was like, if I come back, you know.
09:52And they think about it.
09:53He knows what it is.
09:54He said, you think about all the things I've done in my career.
09:56This is very crazy.
09:57He said, and when I die, there's going to be a donkey on my tombstone.
10:00Yeah.
10:01You know, so, stay on top, Eddie.
10:05You're not on top.
10:05But, yeah, man, it's hard to do this for a long time at a high level.
10:11And I'm one of the comedians that have been doing it for 30 years at a high level.
10:15So, to celebrate 30 years of comedy with the likes of some of the stars that I've come across and been around, it's just a great thing.
10:22Who's with you over the next couple of days?
10:24It's actually me and some of my favorite comedians.
10:27Yeah.
10:27And I don't know who's going to stop through.
10:29I got a lot of, you know, a lot of stars that's going to stop through.
10:33I can't advertise that because I don't want to, you know, Live Nation is like, well, if they don't come, we can't say whatever.
10:39So, I don't know who's going to stop through.
10:40I can say that there will be some celebrities stopping through.
10:43There will be some guest stars stopping through.
10:44But this weekend, specifically, I have a great female comedian from Atlanta.
10:48Her name is Ashima Franklin.
10:50She's on tour with Cat Williams and Nick Cannon with The Wild and Out.
10:53And a young man by the name of Henry Coleman.
10:55Now, when I tell you Henry Coleman is the next Dice Clay without the language, it's just sharp wit.
11:02Really?
11:02And it's like he's real with it, but he's so super funny.
11:07So, I brought some of the comedians I like and enjoy.
11:09So, we're going to have a great time.
11:10And I'm going to be there, and Punchline Philly is going to let it be my home for the world.
11:13Is this going to be Friday and Saturday?
11:14Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
11:16Okay.
11:16They've been giving me a day party on Sunday.
11:18Nice.
11:18Because I'm 50, so a day party's.
11:21Yeah.
11:21You can't wait.
11:22You can't wait.
11:24That's where I'm at.
11:25You go to bed after 60 minutes.
11:26Yeah, yeah.
11:27So, is this fire that happened on 95 going to be an issue for people to get around and get there?
11:34You know, it's so funny.
11:34I was listening to the report with Cat Williams, and I was like, wow.
11:36You know, I get on right.
11:38Coming down 95, I get on right at Bridge Street.
11:40So, it's like, I'm doing 90.
11:43There's nothing behind me.
11:44Now, going back, I got to take as an excuse, you know, whatever your listeners think.
11:49You can find me at Comedy By Two Raiders.
11:51This is not the opinions of Preston and Steve.
11:53But going home, I had to take the Puerto Rican Expressway, which is Front Street all the way from, like, all the way home.
12:01Because I live in the Northeast.
12:02So, it's like, I called it in a second.
12:03But it gets you.
12:04You're going straight up Front Street.
12:06You'll get there.
12:07So, north, going north, it might be a little detour.
12:11But coming south.
12:12Well, I'm a white dude who lives in the suburbs.
12:14I've never heard Puerto Rican Expressway before.
12:15Oh, yeah.
12:16They have.
12:18Like, probably people are like, oh, Front Street.
12:22Yeah.
12:23Puerto Rican Expressway.
12:23It's been weird times because we had the Canadian forest fire smoke last week.
12:29Yo, the East Coast was like, yo, something up, yo.
12:31I'm like.
12:32Yeah.
12:33You know, especially East Coast black people, like, it's a conspiracy theory.
12:36They're not telling us everything.
12:38We got to put these masks back on.
12:39I'm like.
12:40I'm like, yo, talk to your friends in California.
12:42It's a very common occurrence.
12:44It's happening.
12:45Well, yeah.
12:47That's funny.
12:47It's always something.
12:49Yeah.
12:49And living in Philly is like, every day we like.
12:53It's almost like we could be becoming numb because every day it's something crazier.
12:56Yeah.
12:57There's something, I think, northeast and like in cities like this, you're just like, okay.
13:01Yeah.
13:01All right.
13:02You know.
13:03Whatever.
13:03Like, people getting us started.
13:04I mean, it really is making us a selfish society.
13:07Because it's like, how does this affect me?
13:09If I can still get to work.
13:11Yeah.
13:11Like I just said, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was great for me.
13:14Yeah.
13:15I can care less about the people that live up here.
13:18Can I still go to the bar tonight?
13:19Can I still eat outside?
13:21Look, and it's so crazy because you think about it the whole way.
13:24I never met John DeBella.
13:25Good to see you.
13:25Hey.
13:27John, get by.
13:28Hey.
13:30It's so crazy.
13:31I knew immediately who it was.
13:32I'm like, that's John DeBella.
13:33Anyway.
13:34It's like I had to check last night.
13:35You know, I got a guy.
13:36You got a guy for everything.
13:38So for my marijuana, I got a guy.
13:40Yeah.
13:41And I was like, damn, he lives past me on 95.
13:44I was like, I'll come to you.
13:45Don't worry about it.
13:46I'll come to you.
13:47But other than that, it was like, as long as it works out, we're becoming that society
13:51and that culture, especially in the Northeast.
13:53If this don't bother me, my man, I really don't care.
13:57We are getting there.
13:58I think you're right.
13:59Yeah.
14:00Yeah.
14:00When it comes to the sports teams, you know, once the Sixers lost, we care less about the finals.
14:05It was like, who cares?
14:07Yeah, totally.
14:07Who cares?
14:08I forgot they were on.
14:08Oh, joke is, it's great.
14:09Whatever.
14:11When's training camp start?
14:13It is becoming hard to be, we're developing a very thick skin here in Philadelphia.
14:19But at least it's practical.
14:20I mean, you know.
14:21It works.
14:21I travel around the world and I am fine all over the place.
14:24Yeah.
14:24And I'm watching people.
14:25Like I travel, I was just on a flight and the air conditioning didn't work while we were boarding.
14:30So, so I watched it deteriorate.
14:33It was like, you know, I was like, it's a late flight.
14:36Yeah.
14:36These people want to go home and I watched it deteriorate and I watched the staff try to
14:40make, we're going to give you some water.
14:42The first person got up.
14:44Second person got up and said, we're going to let you go back into the hangar.
14:47I was like, yeah, because you're about to have a situation.
14:49Yeah.
14:50And I was just watching.
14:51And I guess being from, you know, being Philadelphia, it's like, I just, I know it's going to pop off.
14:56You fly, you fly a lot.
14:57I don't fly that often, maybe a handful of times a year.
15:01But now I find myself, each time that I get on a plane, I'm like, I wonder if something's
15:06going to happen.
15:06I wonder if there's going to be a passenger freak out.
15:11And am I going to be the person that is filming this?
15:14Or am I going to be the person that's, excuse me, sir, would you help us restrain this person?
15:19Here it is.
15:20It depends on how it affects me.
15:22Yeah.
15:22Like, if they just loud and obnoxious, but we still going to take off?
15:26Yeah, whatever.
15:27If they going to delay my flight, yo, sit down, yo.
15:31Sit down.
15:31Yeah.
15:32Hey, you better sit down now.
15:33You better sit down before it be real problem.
15:37You can talk to these flight attendants like that.
15:40There's a great scene in the movie Bananas, Woody Allen, where he's reading a paper on the
15:45subway.
15:46And there's, and Stallone plays one of the hoods who comes in and they're throttling an old
15:50woman who's literally pushing into it and he's reading the paper and trying, until he
15:54gets pushed off the seat and he tries to react.
15:56Right, right.
15:56It's like, how long can I go?
15:57Yep.
15:58And sometimes it's the way we do it.
15:59During the water scare that we had a couple of weeks ago, months ago, I was like, I haven't
16:03drank Philly water in months.
16:04I got three cases of water in my house.
16:06And then you're people like, well, you don't have, I'm like, yo, if you got kids, you got
16:10two cases in the trunk.
16:11Like, that's how it goes.
16:12Yeah.
16:12And the reason we keep the water in the trunk, because if you put it all in there, they'll open
16:16them all.
16:16They don't drink them all.
16:17That's right.
16:18You got kids, you know, they don't drink them all.
16:19They just open them and sit them to the side.
16:22We had a party, you know, at the house and we put all these little bottles of water and
16:25there was, you could fill, there were about 40 bottles of water out.
16:30If you were to pour what was taken out of each bottle, you couldn't fill up one bottle.
16:33I'm telling you, my little lady, the kids will make you petty, man.
16:36Because my lady tries to compete with them.
16:38Let's just get the little water.
16:39Well, now I got the little water.
16:41It's like, let's just get the little water because they waste them.
16:45I don't waste them.
16:46I'm a big water.
16:47I'm a big man.
16:48I'm on my water.
16:50Simple pleasure in your life.
16:51Right.
16:51But again, you need birthday water.
16:53Right.
16:53I need birthday water.
16:54But if it didn't affect us, you didn't care.
16:56Speaking of birthdays and 50, because I'm 55, but I remember 50.
17:02And do you do a little self-reflection because it's a milestone birthday?
17:07Has any of that entered your mind?
17:08Or are you just kind of whatever?
17:09I haven't.
17:10Man, I've been asking my friends and family to give me little video drops saying happy
17:14birthday, 30-year anniversary type thing.
17:16And I've got some great guys.
17:17It's so funny you mentioned Kev.
17:19I've reached out to Kev and the Plastic Cup boys, and I got a text from an 818 number.
17:24And it was like, I heard you want a video.
17:26The answer is no.
17:27And I was like, who is this?
17:28It was Naeem.
17:30Naeem Lin is one of the Plastic Cup boys.
17:32He's like, I didn't even ask you.
17:34He's like, I know.
17:34But I told them not to give you one either.
17:37Who's in that crew?
17:38Who's in that crew?
17:39Frank Horton, Naeem Lin, and Joey Wells.
17:41Those make up the Plastic Cup boys.
17:42Kev's opening team.
17:44Always who he hangs with.
17:45Yeah.
17:45So Kevin, you know, McGarray gave me a video.
17:49And just that, when they say it, you know, and I guess I think of it.
17:52And I had my kids do one.
17:54And my daughter was like, you know, Dad, you're 50.
17:57And, you know, I never, you know, I was, thank you for loving me and stuff like that.
18:00And that's when I think about it.
18:02Like, you know, because previous to that, I don't think about it.
18:04And my lady tries to make me feel old, you know, in a derogatory way.
18:07You know, you're 50 now.
18:09You should stop acting like that.
18:10And I'm like, first of all, I'm not 50 now.
18:15I'm 50 soon.
18:17And I can still enjoy being, you know.
18:19How old is she, if I may ask?
18:20She's 40 now.
18:22Come on.
18:22No, no, no.
18:23It's not like she's young.
18:24She's the same age.
18:25That's why you're too old to be acting like that.
18:27I'm like, no, actually, I can still do it.
18:29Yeah.
18:29That's the point.
18:30If I can still pull it off.
18:31It's a tactic, though.
18:32I do it with my son.
18:33And I'm like, you are 11 now.
18:36I should not have to, whatever.
18:37Go upstairs and get your shoes for you.
18:39Right.
18:40And, you know, it's so funny because I have, you know, kids, as you know, when the other
18:45parent says it to you, because it's like, my son's mom, I have an 11-year-old.
18:49His mom says, well, he's only 11.
18:51And I'm like, oh, you know, he should, he should, he should at least be driving.
18:56I'm thinking from a 50, she's like, he's just 11.
18:58I'm like, well, you know, he can't do nothing but tie his shoes.
19:01Like, what else can he do with 11?
19:04You forget.
19:05But it's a great accomplishment.
19:07I did a quick interview and someone said, do you think about the 30 years in the game
19:11or the 50 more?
19:12Right.
19:13And I said, to be black and make it to 50, that's an accomplishment.
19:16Yeah, yeah.
19:17I said, but 30 years in comedy is an accomplishment.
19:19That's amazing.
19:20And especially this area.
19:21Yes.
19:21Especially, we talked about this.
19:23Yes.
19:23Philadelphia is generating and has had, when we started the show, we were talking about
19:28this, there was not a comedy scene as 25 years ago.
19:30We had to build it.
19:31Right.
19:31And so now it's a robust community with a lot of incredibly funny people and you hold
19:37your comedy courses, was it twice a year?
19:39Twice a year.
19:39At Philadelphia Comedy College, we do two classes a year, 10-week classes.
19:42But it's funny because when we started, it was just a comedy club, a comedy college or
19:47comedy workshop or whatever.
19:49And as we look back, it's like we've created kind of a community.
19:52Yeah.
19:52Because these comedians come back to work.
19:54They come back to work at the clubs and they form their own shows and it starts to make
19:58a comedy culture.
19:59And over the years, that's what it's truly developed into.
20:02So I'm proud of Philadelphia Comedy, of all of it, because there's always an opportunity
20:07for us to grow.
20:07What's one of the stranger locations that you've had to do a comedy set at?
20:12Oh, man.
20:13Right.
20:13It just didn't make any sense.
20:14Well, it did make sense, but it worked.
20:16During the pandemic, you know, we were outside.
20:18Yeah, yeah, yeah.
20:19So Punchline had us under the bridge.
20:21Oh, yeah.
20:21And I was like, man, I've been working my whole career to get under the bridge.
20:23Yes.
20:25You're a troll.
20:26Like, I was like, yeah, it was like, baby, under the bridge.
20:28It was like, you know, under 95.
20:30Yeah.
20:30And I'm telling you, like, brrrr.
20:33That was the Punchline, folks.
20:35I went to one outdoor show.
20:37It was Burt Kreischer, who was at Wells Fargo Center Parking Lot.
20:40It was one of those stay-in-your-car shows.
20:42Yes, I did one of those.
20:43That was strange.
20:44It was weird.
20:44I mean, I had a good time tonight.
20:45They were like, blow your horns.
20:46Yeah, yeah.
20:47If you were getting laughed, it was like, blow their horn.
20:49I'm like, that's...
20:50And I did the first one, because Live Nation kicked that off.
20:54And we were the first show with Mike Blackson.
20:56And then Burt was the second show.
20:57It was that Citizens Bank Parking Lot.
21:00And I mean, it was one of them, we are the world stages.
21:01Like, the stage was 50 feet from the ground.
21:03The closest person was 100 yards away from us.
21:05It was like, comedy doesn't work like that.
21:07Right.
21:07To me.
21:08Now, don't get me wrong.
21:09There are comedians that can, but I can't.
21:10Laughing is reflexive.
21:12Honking a horn is not.
21:13Right.
21:13You know what I'm saying?
21:14Yeah, yeah, yeah.
21:14Yeah, yeah.
21:14Like, brr.
21:17That's funny, yo.
21:18Brr.
21:19It was a weird attempt.
21:21Yeah.
21:21Somebody said, next to you, hit it, hit it.
21:22That's funny.
21:23It was 1,000 cars in that part of the house.
21:25We were trying anything for, like, normalcy at that point.
21:27Right.
21:28You know?
21:28We just wanted a piece.
21:29Exactly.
21:29Yeah.
21:30I want to go to a comedy show, but I got to sit in the car.
21:32But I got to sit in the car.
21:33This is crazy.
21:34I am.
21:35But we enjoy it.
21:36So, weird spots.
21:36Well, now we're back in the club.
21:38Yes.
21:38Of course, it's been that way for a while now, but extra special this weekend, because
21:41it's your birthday shows.
21:43And Punchline.
21:44And so, two shows Friday, Saturday, and then one on Sunday, that daytime show?
21:48Yes.
21:48No, no, no.
21:49It's a daytime party.
21:50Daytime party.
21:51It's a night show.
21:52Nice.
21:52So, we got a little day party.
21:53We're going to break out the cards.
21:54We got some spades.
21:55If you guys play spades, come through.
21:57It's called the Grown Folks Get Together.
21:59It's just a little day party.
22:00You know, just some time to relax, because a lot of people may not be able to make it
22:03to the shows or whatever, but they still want to come celebrate with me.
22:06We just want to lounge out, drink some drinks, play some cards, and sell some lives.
22:09You're a staple in this area.
22:11It's very cool, man.
22:12It's awesome.
22:12I try.
22:12I got to pay these bills.
22:13Yeah.
22:14Get those waters.
22:16Exactly.
22:16I got to buy these waters.
22:17The big ones.
22:18The big waters.
22:18Great to see you, Turey.
22:19Thanks for being here, and happy birthday to you, Turey.
22:22Nice to see you, man.
22:23Thank you always for having me, man.
22:24Our pleasure.
22:25Appreciate you guys.
22:25Anytime, sir.
22:26We're going to take a break.
22:27We'll be back.
22:27We'll do the B-Pile, Trash Music News, all that stuff when we return.
22:30Stay with us.
22:30We'll do the B-Pile, Trash Music News, all that stuff when we return.
