00:00Stop doom scrolling. We did it for you. Here's what you need to know with Amy and Sean on 1027 VGS.
00:08No doom scrolling today. Nothing but good news. I know. Such a great day.
00:142017, the Aces were not the Aces. They were the San Antonio Stars. They were the worst team in the league.
00:21They were 8-26. The next year they moved to Vegas. Asia Wilson joins the team.
00:26Dramatically improved since. First in the league for the past three seasons, but yesterday they got what they want.
00:35The new season has come up Aces. The city of Las Vegas has its first major professional title.
00:46The Las Vegas Aces, your 2022 WNBA champions.
00:54I'll tell you, if you didn't catch that game.
00:55It gives you goosebumps.
00:57It was so great. It was a very tight game, too.
01:00Quick question for you. Did Mark Davis own them when they were there?
01:04No. He actually just bought them over the past couple seasons.
01:07Wow.
01:07Yeah, yeah. So it's been maybe the past season.
01:10Wow.
01:11Game four, WNBA championship. They got them all. Final 78-71 against the Connecticut Sun in Connecticut.
01:18Fairly tough game throughout. I think the biggest one-quarter scoring lead they had was like four.
01:24So, I mean, it was a tight game throughout. The Sun really made a move in the second half, but the Aces persevered thanks to the leadership of their coach, Becky Hammond.
01:32What I'm most proud of is we became a real team out here. And a team that cares about each other and trusts each other. And to me, that's the biggest thing that I'm proud of.
01:40Really, she is amazing. I think she's the first WNBA former player to win a championship as a coach.
01:47Wow.
01:48So, very, very cool.
01:49Very cool.
01:50So where's the parade?
01:51Hold on. We're getting there.
01:54Let's get to it. I'm like, I got to make plans.
01:57Asha Wilson, she's been with the Aces since year one. Collected pretty much all the honors except for the biggest. Now she's a WNBA champion.
02:05This is amazing. Like, honestly, our team fought through. We were resilient. We held each other accountable. And we just stuck it through.
02:12They went on their highs. Can't get too low without lows. But, man, we champ. We champ. We champ.
02:19Chelsea Gray, she was an absolute all-star except for the fact that this season she wasn't. Not named to the team despite very decent numbers.
02:29She doubled down since. She was putting in extra workouts, being the Aces breakout star, averaging over 18 points a game during the playoffs.
02:36And she earned the series MVP.
02:38I know you took it very personally when you were not voted an all-star this year.
02:42How does the MVP of the finals and a world champion sound instead?
02:46All right. They can keep that all-star on that first team. I got the ring. You know what I'm saying?
02:51I love Chelsea Gray. She's amazing. All right. Parade.
02:55Yes. Let's talk about it. They did prepare it and they didn't tell us the details until after, which is exactly how to not jinx a team.
03:01Yeah, exactly.
03:02Okay. So Las Vegas Aces Championship Victory Parade taking place tomorrow, Tuesday, 5.30 in the afternoon.
03:09It kicks off. The route starts at Caesars, goes south on the Strip towards the front of the Bellagio.
03:16At the front of the Bellagio, there's going to be a stage there. The ladies are going to be there.
03:20There's going to be entertainment there. Dignitaries, you know they're all going to be there.
03:23Right.
03:24So if you're driving, obviously every local knows you just avoid the Strip anyways.
03:28But if you do, just know that southbound traffic in the area is going to be restricted from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
03:35Restricted if not closed. So keep an eye out for that.
03:38Yeah, I would just say don't go there. I'm sure it's going to be just...
03:42Go to the parade.
03:43Right, but don't...
03:44If you're trying to just cut through or go to work...
03:46DI.
03:47Yeah.
03:48Tunnel, way better. But yeah, man, that's going to be a lot of fun.
03:52I mean, I've been... Have you ever been to a championship parade of anything?
03:55No.
03:56Wow.
03:56So I'm excited.
03:56I'll tell you, man. I've been to a few in Boston and they are special.
04:00And I genuinely hope that Las Vegas makes it out for them because my goodness, they are.
04:07And they're going to do it again next year.
04:08Yeah.
04:08Play this next year. They will do it again. They will repeat.
04:12They are amazing. Congratulations, Aces. Well deserved.
