00:00Do you think she's coming here to influence what you say?
00:02I might buy there's no ulterior motive if she wasn't married to Warden Bennett
00:05from the prison where we put that riot down a couple of weeks back.
00:07And let's get this on the record too while we're at it.
00:10You're an incompetent moron who's got no business running this or any prison.
00:13When my wife hears how you handled things...
00:15SWAT handled what you couldn't.
00:16I will tell the truth at the inquiry and to your husband.
00:18I don't care what firestorm you cook up.
00:20I stand by my officers.
00:22Okay, your hat and your water bottle are in your bag.
00:31Where's your lunchbox?
00:33Did we forget it again?
00:35Yeah.
00:36Wait here, I'll go grab it.
00:52Gracie?
00:56Gracie, where are you?
00:58Mommy!
01:00Gracie!
01:02Stop!
01:03My daughter!
01:06My daughter!
01:06My daughter, wait!
01:12All right, one more and one's your emergency.
01:17You forget your shovel?
01:18I assume you're back to try again to dig up some more dirt on me.
01:23When you read the book, How to Win Friends and Influence People,
01:25I think you skipped the chapter on charm.
01:27I shoot from the hip and I tell it straight.
01:29It must be nice to have that luxury.
01:32Look, I'm sorry your husband lost his job.
01:34But the prison board did a thorough investigation
01:36and put the blame for the riot squarely on his shoulders.
01:39Not SWAT's.
01:40Well, while I disagree with the board's findings,
01:43I will accept their decision,
01:45and my husband did the right thing and fell on a sword.
01:46But I'm not here to talk about that.
01:49I'm here to talk about Officer Gamble.
01:51Are you aware she's associating with known criminals?
01:54Are you talking about her family?
01:55Her brothers, Leon and Judd, as well as two cousins,
01:58are suspected of carrying out several trained cargo heists.
02:00They've been under surveillance for the last three weeks.
02:03Early yesterday morning, LAPD's cargo theft unit
02:05raided their suspected stash house and came up empty.
02:08I wonder why that is.
02:10Maybe they got bad intel.
02:11Maybe somebody tipped them off that the raid was happening.
02:13Are you implying my officer is dirty?
02:15Surveillance caught Gamble leaving her cousin's house
02:18the night before the raid went down.
02:20How would she have even known about the raid?
02:22The cargo theft unit requested armed backup.
02:26Details were posted to SWAT's bulletin board.
02:28Gamble could have seen the alert and tipped them off.
02:30Or are you putting one of my officers under the microscope
02:32in an attempt to discredit me?
02:35As my daughter likes to say, you have real main character energy.
02:37But, and this might come as a surprise,
02:39not everything is about you.
02:41And you say I skipped the chapter on charm?
02:43There is going to be an investigation into Gamble
02:45and her links to this crew
02:47and whether or not she's working for them as an informant.
02:50While it's ongoing, you need to bench her.
02:53I.A. moves at glacial speed.
02:55She'll end up sitting in the armor for a year,
02:57twiddling her thumbs, only to be found innocent.
02:59It is up to your discretion.
03:00But if I were you, I would consider how it looks
03:03if she ends up being guilty.
03:04You'll have to excuse me.
03:08As much as I love our little chats,
03:11I got better things to do.
03:19All right, at 720 this morning,
03:20six-year-old Gracie Walsh was abducted from her front yard.
03:23Fifteen minutes ago, a manager of a motel
03:25responded to the Amber Alert,
03:27saying he saw Gracie being dragged
03:28screaming into a room by this guy,
03:30Jared Whitlock.
03:31He's got a long list of felony convictions.
03:33Any of those felonies child-related?
03:35Assault with a deadly weapon,
03:37forcible coercion.
03:38It's not clear from this
03:39if any of the charges involve minors.
03:41Detectives are already at the hotel.
03:43Told them to set up a perimeter
03:44and warned them to stay back and out of sight.
03:45Does the suspect have any connection to Gracie?
03:47No, it doesn't seem like it.
03:49Looks like stranger abduction.
03:51With most stranger abductions,
03:52the victim winds up dead.
03:54Seventy-four percent are killed
03:55within the first three hours.
03:56We're not giving Whitlock a chance
03:58to use this kid as a hostage
03:59or do anything worse.
04:00Y'all copy?
04:01Roger.
04:02Copy.
04:03Suspect's in room 217.
04:10RxD confirmed with the receptionist.
04:12He hasn't left the room.
04:13Our tan pal, take the rear
04:14in case he makes a break for it.
04:16Deacon, you cover the front.
04:17Me and Gamble are head inside.
04:27Hold.
04:28D-team reporting.
04:29What's your status?
04:3022, David.
04:31Move it into position.
04:3530, David.
04:35I got the one side covered.
04:37Moving.
04:43Jared Whitlock, stop right there.
04:46Suspect spotted us.
04:47He's going back in the room.
04:49Suspect's on the balcony.
04:50Give it up.
04:53Whitlock.
04:54Gamble, stay with the kid.
04:55Copy.
04:57Hey, stop!
05:01Give it up!
05:02He's headed for the roof.
05:05Split.
05:06Take the right side.
05:06L.A.P.D.
05:14On him.
05:15I'm on him.
05:22Move, move, move, move, move!
05:29Underneath!
05:30Tom, move!
05:32L.A.P.D., stop!
05:33A for effort, at least.
05:48I know it's not Gracie.
05:49It's the girl in the room.
05:50It's not her.
05:51Who's that little girl?
05:53It's my girlfriend's kid.
05:54I'm looking out there for the day.
05:55We're my girl at work.
05:57Hell, man!
05:58Did somebody call 911 to report me?
06:00Yes.
06:01Man, it's a sick world.
06:02He's a black man, can't do nothing
06:03without somebody thinking
06:04he's doing something wrong.
06:05Why'd you run when you saw us?
06:06It's a natural reaction to the cops.
06:08Yeah?
06:08Nothing to do with your two outstanding warrants?
06:10Oh, come on, man.
06:11I can't never catch a damn break!
06:19So Gracie's still out there?
06:21She's been missing an hour already.
06:23Tan, you said if we don't find her
06:24in the first three, we might never.
06:26Well, then the clock's ticking.
06:27We need to bring that little girl home.
06:29We'll be back.
06:44Yeah?
07:15Who's Gracie's dad in all this?
07:16Well, it definitely wasn't him who took her.
07:18He died six months ago of a brain tumor.
07:20I also found out he was a cop up in Oxnard.
07:22One of our own.
07:23That why Deputy Chief Ben is here?
07:25No, but it's why she's sticking around.
07:27She's on the board of the Eagle and Shield Foundation.
07:29Apparently knows the family.
07:30Gracie's mom managed to catch the make and model of the vehicle.
07:33It's a white Honda Civic.
07:34Now, she only got the first three letters on the plate.
07:36I'll check to see if there are any more leads.
07:38Okay.
07:40I've gone through a list of child sex offenders in the area.
07:43There's one living three streets over from Gracie's house.
07:46Michael Boswell.
07:47His phone's off, so I called his workplace.
07:50He didn't show up this morning for a shift.
07:52Dan, grab Hondo and get over there.
07:56Gamble.
07:58A word.
07:59Have you seen your family recently?
08:05A couple nights ago, yeah.
08:07Why?
08:08Any particular reason for the visit?
08:11No, we just, you know, had a family dinner.
08:14I owed them.
08:15Your brothers and your cousins are under investigation by the LAPD for cargo theft.
08:20What?
08:21When you were there visiting, that didn't come up in the conversation?
08:25No.
08:26I had no idea until now.
08:29So you didn't tip them off that an LAPD raid was imminent?
08:33I'm sorry, what are you saying?
08:35It sounds like you're accusing me of being a dirty cop.
08:37I'm not accusing you of anything.
08:39Deputy Chief is.
08:41And she's opening an investigation.
08:43Into what?
08:44I didn't do anything.
08:46I had no idea my brothers and cousins were into anything illegal.
08:49Trust me.
08:50If I had, I wouldn't have went anywhere near them.
08:52I'm not the one you're going to need to convince.
08:54It's internal affairs.
08:56You're the SWAT commander.
08:58If you don't believe I'm innocent, then what hope do I have in convincing anyone else?
09:12My husband was a detective.
09:15He used to come home from work with stories about all the awful things he'd seen on the job.
09:20Robberies, murders, and bad things always happen to other people.
09:25Not to us.
09:27I wish he was here.
09:28He'd know what to do.
09:33You've got the entire LAPD looking for Gracie.
09:38We will do everything we can to find her.
09:40This is my fault.
09:41I shouldn't have let her out of my sight.
09:42This is not your fault.
09:46She forgot her lunchbox.
09:49I went back inside to get it.
09:51Every day I have to make her peanut butter and banana sandwiches.
09:57And cut them into triangles because that's the way her dad did it.
10:01And she'll only drink strawberry milk.
10:08Because he told her that's what princesses drink.
10:11I know it's easy for me to sit here and say, don't fall apart.
10:19Kate, the best thing you can do for Gracie right now is to hold it together.
10:22I gave the detective some photos from my phone.
10:30But I remembered I had this one.
10:37She was wearing a dress today.
10:44Have you found her?
10:46We're still working on leads.
10:48Pal, a word?
10:51Excuse me.
10:57We got hits on three white Hondas matching the one that drove off with Gracie.
11:00Now, detectives cleared the first two.
11:02But the owner of the third one, he's got two charges on his record.
11:05Violating a restraining order and brandishing a weapon.
11:07So we've been asked to do the honors and go knock on his door?
11:10I guess if you're on the sex offender registry, you don't get to be too picky about where you live.
11:19I don't know about that, Tan.
11:21I've arrested a few sex offenders living in mansions in the Hollywood Hills.
11:27You keep a list in your head of the cases that never leave you?
11:31I used to.
11:33But that list got too long.
11:35I had to figure out ways to deal with it instead.
11:37Every single one on my list involves kids.
11:41Murdered, missing, worse.
11:44Kenesha's the one that sticks with me most.
11:46I think about her all the time.
11:47What happened to Kenesha?
11:50She was ten.
11:51Went missing on her way home from choir practice.
11:54Three blocks between the church and her house.
11:57Broad daylight, not a single witness.
11:59It was my first week working vice, and my sergeant assigned me family liaison.
12:03That's a tough job.
12:04Yeah.
12:05Every time I'd knock on their door, her mom would answer looking so hopeful, and every time I had to let her down.
12:13Handling another person's hope ain't easy, man.
12:16Especially when you know that hope's probably going to turn to grief.
12:20Her mom was a really nice lady.
12:21I must have sat on her sofa for hours, drinking iced tea, listening to her talk about Kenesha, how she wanted to be Beyonce when she grew up.
12:32It was awful.
12:33I felt like I was keeping a secret from her.
12:35You know, some folks just prefer to stay in the dark, so they don't have to face the fact that their kid's never coming home.
12:42This is the street.
12:42Well, there's no guessing which is our suspect's house.
12:57You hear about Gracie?
12:59Where is she?
13:00Is she inside?
13:01Come on in.
13:02See for yourself.
13:04Gracie!
13:04Turn around.
13:05All right, all right.
13:06Gracie!
13:11All right.
13:12As soon as I got that Amber Alert, I knew you'd come knocking.
13:15The place is clear.
13:17Yeah.
13:17But she's not here.
13:18Where were you this morning between 7 and 8?
13:20I was peeing into a plastic cup for a random drug test.
13:23Call my parole officer if you don't believe me.
13:25Here, I have it.
13:26Yeah, neighbor from hell.
13:37Yeah, I'm sure they'd agree.
13:38I was 21.
13:39She was 17.
13:40Maybe you should have checked her ID.
13:41Her parents reported me.
13:42And 8 years I got for statutory rape.
13:45You broke the law.
13:46And I did my time.
13:49I got an engineering degree.
13:50And the only job that I can get is unclogging toilets at the shelter down the street.
13:54And every time a kid goes missing, you guys come banging on my door.
13:58The neighbors smash my windows.
14:00They threaten to kill me.
14:01Okay, thanks.
14:03Alibi holds.
14:05Let's go.
14:09Hey, can you just...
14:11Can you please just tell my neighbors that I didn't take that kid?
14:15Fine.
14:15Fine.
14:24I guess no one's home.
14:34Let's check the back.
14:38Come on.
14:43Excuse me.
14:44We're looking for your neighbor, Robert Dunn.
14:46Have you seen him today?
14:47He's on vacation.
14:50Any idea where he went?
14:52Baja.
14:53It was one of those adults-only cruises.
14:56It's not my thing, but hey.
14:58Does he drive a white Honda Civic?
15:00Yeah.
15:01Yeah, he drove it down to Long Beach where he caught the ship from.
15:04Any idea what he might be back, Mr...
15:07Oh, Owens.
15:08Stephen Owens.
15:09And no, no, I got no idea.
15:10Sorry.
15:11What's this about?
15:12Well, a car with a similar description was used in a crime this morning.
15:15Oh.
15:16Well, are you sure it was his car?
15:17No, we're just checking out some leads.
15:20Thank you for your time.
15:21Yeah.
15:21Okay.
15:24Who's watching your neighbor's cat?
15:28Oh, uh, I am.
15:30I'm-I'm-I'm watching it.
15:31So wouldn't you know when he's coming back?
15:35Yeah, I mean, it's-it's next week sometime, but I don't-I don't know the exact date.
15:38I'd have to look it up.
15:39So, uh, if you'll excuse me.
15:43Let's go.
15:45It's acting really weird.
15:47We'll run a check on him when we get back to HQ.
15:49If he has a key to the neighbor's house, who's to say he doesn't have a key to the car, too?
15:56What if his neighbor didn't drive to Long Beach?
15:58What if he kept his car here and Owens used it to abduct Gracie?
16:02We need to bring him in for questioning.
16:04Pal, we can't just bring him in for questioning because we think he's weird.
16:06We need actual proof that he borrowed the car.
16:08Gracie's been missing for two hours.
16:10My gut tells me something is off about that guy, Deke.
16:13Notice how he didn't ask what crime the car was used for?
16:17Yeah.
16:17People usually do want to know all the lower details.
16:26Mr. Owens, we were just wondering if we could ask you a few more questions.
16:29Uh, about what?
16:32You live alone?
16:33Yeah.
16:33Hey, what are you doing?
16:37You can't do that.
16:38Pal!
16:40Mr. Owens, we are conducting a search for a missing child.
16:43You cannot come into my house without a search warrant.
16:45I know my rights.
16:46Pal!
17:01Did you find anything?
17:06No, it's just a dog.
17:07What did I tell you?
17:08Now get the hell out of my house!
17:11Hey, stop that!
17:12Don't do that!
17:13Don't move.
17:14You're better.
17:15I need this.
17:15It's all Gracie's favorites.
17:20Hey, get off me!
17:23Where the hell is Gracie?
17:26What did you do with her?
17:29The suspect you brought in has no priors, and we got no hard evidence that he took Gracie.
17:33I know he took her.
17:34A hunch isn't enough to get a judge to issue a warrant.
17:37Especially after that unauthorized entry you pulled.
17:40I'm not saying you made a bad call.
17:42Other than violating a man's rights.
17:43We don't have enough to charge him unless Deacon and Tan get him to crack.
17:46Did we get inside the neighbor's house yet?
17:48Owens has a key.
17:49He could have stashed Gracie there.
17:50We're trying to get a hold of the landlord to get us access.
17:53The lawful kind.
17:54In the meantime, I want you to see what you can do to dig into Oma's private life.
18:09If you took Gracie, it's best to own up now.
18:11Let us help you fix this.
18:12I didn't snatch any child.
18:14This is a wrongful arrest, and I am going to sue your asses into the ground.
18:18Once we find the evidence, which we will, we are going to nail your ass to the wall.
18:21I'm sorry.
18:22What was that, Officer Tan?
18:24Annie.
18:29Who was that?
18:31Annie Kay, Deacon's wife.
18:32She's a public defender.
18:34What are you doing here?
18:36I read through the charge sheet on the way over here.
18:38You guys made entry without probable cause.
18:40We heard what we took to be a child.
18:42A barking labradoodle.
18:43Your client is suspected of abducting a six-year-old girl.
18:46And your evidence is peanut butter and bananas.
18:49She's torpedoing them.
18:51Even if you had something more substantial, none of this would be admissible in court.
18:55This is what I've been trying to tell you.
18:56Be quiet.
18:58You don't have anything on my client.
19:00You need to let him go.
19:02A word.
19:03Outside.
19:12What in God's name, Annie?
19:15That man abducted a six-year-old child.
19:17Allegedly.
19:17A little girl.
19:18And she's out there somewhere.
19:19Those O.J. cops did a better job of collecting evidence.
19:22You want to find her?
19:24Do your job properly.
19:25For God's sakes.
19:26The best chance we have to find this little girl is to convince that man to talk.
19:31But you're letting him walk.
19:33I'm not letting him.
19:34The law is.
19:35Even if he's guilty, he's not going to say anything anyway.
19:37Thanks to you.
19:39I will fight to maintain my client's innocence until you prove beyond a reasonable doubt that
19:44he is guilty.
19:45Those are our jobs.
19:47I want to find this little girl as much as you do.
19:49You could have fooled me.
19:50David, we are on the same side here.
19:52Cut Mr. Owens loose.
19:54Your wife was right.
19:55We can't hang on to him.
19:56Owens isn't about to have a come-to-Jesus moment and start yapping.
20:00We're better off letting him go.
20:01We'll keep him under surveillance.
20:03Maybe he'll lead us to Gracie.
20:04If he knows he's under a microscope, he's not going to take any risks.
20:07You let him walk, we lose our shot.
20:09Not necessarily.
20:11Powell and Gamble are still digging into Owens.
20:12There's a chance they'll find something.
20:14Then we just take another run at him.
20:16I'll update Gracie's mom.
20:17Okay, got it.
20:31That was R.H.D.
20:32The landlord let them into the neighbor's house.
20:34No sign of Gracie.
20:35No white Honda in the garage either.
20:36You'd find anything on Owens.
20:38No, he's more than vanilla.
20:39He's tofu.
20:41Degree in accounting.
20:42No wife, no kids.
20:43According to his LinkedIn, he volunteers at a humane society
20:45and counts birdwatching and growing vegetables as his hobbies.
20:50What if I'm wrong?
20:53What if he is just a normal guy who's into birds and vegetables?
20:56I mean, a lot of people like peanut butter banana sandwiches and strawberry milk.
21:00What if someone else snatched Gracie and we're just wasting our time?
21:03I am not doubting your gut for a second, Powell.
21:07You shouldn't either.
21:08A woman's intuition plus a cop six cents, a winning combo if you ask me.
21:15How'd it go with Owens?
21:19He crack?
21:20He say anything about Gracie?
21:21No.
21:22We're letting him go.
21:24Was it because of the entry I made?
21:31Is that Annie?
21:34Yeah.
21:35She drew the short straw.
21:36She's Owens' public defender.
21:37You still dot your gut?
21:44Not for a second.
21:45That bastard took her.
21:47Yeah.
21:48And he knows that we know.
21:50And that we can't do anything about it.
21:58Deputy Chief, may I have a word, please?
22:00Officer Gamble, I assume you've spoken with Commander Hicks?
22:03About the lies going around about me.
22:05Do I at least get a chance to defend myself?
22:07You won't get a chance to respond to the allegations once the investigation is underway.
22:11All due respect, word gets out that I am being investigated for corruption and my career is over.
22:16If you're innocent, it won't even matter.
22:17I am innocent.
22:20There's no if.
22:21You associate with known criminals.
22:23That's not exactly a good look for a police officer.
22:25I was having chicken wings and some beers with my family.
22:28I was not tipping anyone off about a police raid.
22:31Is this really about that?
22:34What else would it be about?
22:35Commander Hicks, I know you don't like him.
22:39But using me to get to him for some personal vendetta...
22:42Officer Gamble, do I need to remind you of your rank?
22:44No.
22:46Can I remind you that you were once in my position?
22:52Are you really going to throw me under the bus?
22:56Well, I wouldn't disagree with anyone who thought Hicks' reign at SWAT had gone past his expiration date,
23:01but this investigation is a totally separate issue.
23:04It's about my not tolerating corruption within the LAPD ranks.
23:07How many times do I need to say it?
23:11I'm clean.
23:13You know, I really, really hope that's the case.
23:21Do you?
23:22Hey.
23:33You okay?
23:36What if I screwed up our only chance at finding this little girl?
23:40Pal, you might be the only reason we have a chance at finding her.
23:44Your hunch led us to the suspect.
23:46Owens knows we'll be watching him.
23:47He's not going to do anything now.
23:49I can't tell if that's better for Gracie or worse.
23:53If Gracie is still alive, that means she's likely safe for the moment.
23:57Locked up somewhere?
23:59Terrified and alone?
24:00Hondo, the world is huge.
24:02She could be anywhere.
24:05You and I both know how most of these cases end.
24:09You felt something was off of the suspect.
24:12You followed that hunch, and now we have a real lead.
24:14There is a time to call it quits in that timing here yet.
24:25Finally got a hold of Stephen Owens' neighbor, the one on the cruise.
24:28Says he didn't take his car to Long Beach.
24:29He left it at home in the garage.
24:31Yeah, but the car wasn't there when RHD checked the house.
24:33Owens must have used it to abduct Gracie, just like Pal guessed.
24:36Mm-hmm.
24:36We find the car, we might find the girl.
24:38We won't find it.
24:38He's covering his tracks.
24:40Pal, you went inside his house.
24:41Was there anything you saw that could tell us who this guy is, or where he might have taken her?
24:45I was looking for Gracie.
24:46I wasn't checking out the decor.
24:47What about photographs?
24:49Any sense that he has friends or family come and stay?
24:51Anyone we might talk to?
24:52I wasn't looking for anything like that.
24:54Besides, everything was like weird, creepy landscapes.
24:57Get these black and white photographs all across the wall of like a farmhouse or a barn.
25:02Hold up.
25:03Photos like this?
25:05Yes, exactly like that.
25:08How did you find them?
25:09Owens is a tax accountant.
25:10I was going through his list of clients.
25:12One of them is a photographer, Denton Pryor.
25:14Dude thinks he's Ansel Adams or something.
25:16Maybe the photos are how Pryor pays for getting his taxes done.
25:19Click on other work.
25:22Pryor takes school portraits, too.
25:27Pryor's logo.
25:28He took Gracie's school picture.
25:29So this guy, Denton Pryor, and our guy, Stephen Owens, know each other,
25:33which means they could be accomplices.
25:34Who abducted Gracie together.
25:35Denton Pryor has a previous arrest in Arizona for inappropriate contact with a child,
25:40pleaded guilty to a lesser charge, did some community service, then left town.
25:44So Pryor lives in Venice.
25:45His studio is a few blocks away, which means Gracie could be at either.
25:49It's circumstantial, but it's got to be enough to get a warrant.
25:52I'll call a judge.
25:53We will split up, check them both.
25:54Let's roll.
26:01LAPD with a search warrant.
26:02Tim.
26:04Right side clear.
26:10Left side clear.
26:14Closet clear.
26:26Go.
26:30Clear.
26:30Claire.
26:33She's not here.
26:35It's Deacon.
26:36No sign of Pryor or Gracie at his apartment, either.
26:47Please don't let this be what I think it is.
26:49The FBI have ID'd the other four kids.
26:57They were all abducted.
26:58First one back in 2018.
27:00Seems like Stephen Owens and Denton Pryor have been doing this for some time now.
27:04Snatching a child every 18 months or so.
27:08Hicks told the cops sitting on Owens' house to bring him in for questioning.
27:11Good.
27:11The gloves are off.
27:13We're getting answers this round.
27:14Owens is not walking out of here a second time.
27:16We also have a bolo out of Denton Pryor, too.
27:18We'll get both of them.
27:19Hopefully before they have a chance to do anything to Gracie.
27:21It's a message from Hicks.
27:23The patrol unit sitting on Stephen Owens' house just reported in.
27:26Come on.
27:27He hopped the back fence.
27:28He's in the wind.
27:29What's the secret?
27:37Because I won't mind knowing it.
27:38How you dealt with those cases you couldn't get out of your head?
27:42It ain't the ones we solved that stick with us, Dan.
27:45It's the ones we don't.
27:47That's why you can't stop thinking about condition.
27:50Right.
27:51But if you can't solve the case, how you let it go?
27:54I had a Kenesha story like yours.
28:02Edward Miller.
28:03He was six years old.
28:05He went missing playing in his front yard with his cousins.
28:08His grandmother thought he went with his mother to the store.
28:11Guessing they didn't find him?
28:12No.
28:14I was a beat cop at the time.
28:16They had a detective assigned to the case, but a little black kid gone missing at that time.
28:20It didn't cause much of a stir.
28:22I'm not sure much has changed.
28:24Edward's grandmother and my grandmother went to the same church.
28:27So I found myself organizing search parties, talking to every CEI and sex offender in the system.
28:32But nothing.
28:34Dan, I felt so bad that I couldn't bring that family peace.
28:37Then I just avoided him.
28:41Hear you on that?
28:43It was my grandmother who eventually sat me down, and she told me that my guilt wasn't helping nobody.
28:47His family needed truth.
28:50So I went to Edward's folks, and I looked them right in the eye.
28:56And I admitted that I didn't think their little boy was ever coming home.
28:59And it was hard, feeling like I had completely crushed their hopes.
29:03But I saw that it actually gave them some closure.
29:08And that.
29:11It gave me some, too.
29:12Annie.
29:20I'm trying to get a hold of you.
29:21I was in court.
29:22My phone was off.
29:23It's about Stephen Owens.
29:25We found more evidence that he abducted Gracie.
29:27Enough that a judge signed off on an arrest warrant.
29:29But he's gone AWOL.
29:31Now, we traced his phone back to his house, but he must have left it behind.
29:33If we don't catch up to him, we may never find Gracie.
29:37Annie, did he say anything to you?
29:38Anything about where he might be going when he left HQ?
29:40He said he needed to check in on his dog, but he didn't ditch his phone.
29:43He texted me ten minutes ago.
29:44What?
29:45Why are there cops watching my house?
29:47Am I still under investigation?
29:48He's got a second phone we didn't know about.
29:52We can trace it.
29:53All right, I gotta go.
29:54Okay.
29:58I heard the investigation into Officer Gamble starts tomorrow.
30:01Well, please.
30:02Come on in.
30:04Have you decided yet if you're going to bench her?
30:08I've got too many people out sick.
30:10I can't afford to have an officer counting bullets while the other ones are in the firing line.
30:14You can't keep her in the field.
30:16No one will trust her to have your back.
30:17We traced Stephen Owens' second phone.
30:18He's at Union Station.
30:20Well, what are you still doing here?
30:20Go!
30:24I think I might have found something.
30:26It's just a hunch.
30:27Let's hear it.
30:29Both perps are obsessed with images of this farm.
30:31I think it's because that's where they're taking the children.
30:35The photo's geotagged.
30:36It's out in Simi Valley.
30:37I can't figure out who the owner is.
30:38But what if this is where Gracie's at?
30:41I know it's just a hunch.
30:41The others can go to Union Station.
30:43Take 10 and get out to the farm.
30:45I'll dot your eyes and get you a warrant so you can search the place.
30:48Remember to tap your card before boarding.
30:51All right.
30:52Hicks alerted station patrol cops to be able to look out for Owens.
30:54No sign so far.
30:55Could have hopped the train already.
30:56His phone triangulated just minutes ago.
30:58Still within the building.
31:00All right, Gamble.
31:00You and Stephen take the waiting room and the platforms.
31:03We'll check out the main concourse and ticket office.
31:04This is definitely the place.
31:26That barn was in one of Pryor's photos.
31:28It doesn't seem like anyone's been here in years.
31:3726, David.
31:38No sign of the suspect in the waiting room.
31:39We'll try the platform.
31:40Roger.
31:41No luck on the main concourse either.
31:43We're moving on to the ticket office.
31:50Our white Honda.
31:55Gracie!
31:58She's got to be around here somewhere.
32:01Let's look over there.
32:08Over here.
32:09It's loose.
32:21Gracie?
32:23Gracie, you here?
32:28Where the hell is she?
32:39Check out these marks.
32:42This was moved.
32:43Help me out.
32:43I'm going to take you home to your mommy.
33:13Okay?
33:16She's shackled to the bed.
33:18There are bull cutters in the car.
33:19I'll go get them.
33:20And I can use the car radio.
33:21Let HQ know we found her.
33:22There's no reception out here.
33:29Honda.
33:3012 o'clock.
33:31Always has a Labrador.
33:32Stephen Owens!
33:35It's him.
33:35L.A.P.D.
33:36Move!
33:36Move!
33:37Out of the way!
33:37Move!
33:40Move!
33:41L.A.P.D.
33:41Move!
33:42Out of the way!
33:49Seriously?
33:50Take it.
33:50Quick. Hey, you. Out. Now. Now.
34:10Hey, hey, hey. That's not as easy as it looks, man.
34:14You cut in the wrong place and that windpipe gets in the way,
34:16you're only going to pass out from the pain,
34:18and you will wake up handcuffed to a hospital bed.
34:20But if you actually know how to do that correctly,
34:22I will put a bullet through your shoulder before you can even try,
34:25and you will still wake up handcuffed to a hospital bed.
34:27So you choose.
34:32Step away. Step away. Turn around. Face the wall.
34:35Turn around!
34:44Don't worry. He's going to be back real soon, okay?
34:48Hang on.
34:50All right. Just a second.
35:12There. See?
35:13Do you think you can walk?
35:36Get your hands up.
35:37More police are on their way by now.
35:43Your buddy Owens has been arrested already, too.
35:46Just let us go.
35:48It's over.
35:49Too late.
35:50Run!
35:50Run!
35:50You okay?
36:08You okay?
36:20Yeah.
36:22Gracie?
36:23Gracie?
36:26Hey!
36:29You okay?
36:32Let's get you home.
36:33Okay.
36:33Gracie?
36:47Gracie?
36:49Mommy!
37:00Hey.
37:01You here to see Owens?
37:16I've already seen him.
37:18Left him writing his statement.
37:20Could be a while.
37:21He can't clean.
37:21Told him he found Gracie.
37:23He knew she'd be able to identify him.
37:26So he decided it was probably in his best interest to start talking.
37:29You know, a judge won't show leniency, even if he gives up info on the other crimes.
37:34He and Pryor murdered four children.
37:35I think my client's more concerned about avoiding extradition.
37:39One of the kids they abducted was taken from her home in Blythe.
37:43I checked the zip code.
37:45It wasn't on the California side of town.
37:47Arizona.
37:49Death penalty.
37:50Sometimes I hate my job, just having to defend people that make me sick to my stomach.
37:55Hey, I'm sorry.
37:57And I'm sorry about earlier.
37:58You were right.
38:00We are on the same team.
38:02I'm really sorry about that OJ comment.
38:04That way it was low.
38:06Yeah, it was harsh.
38:08But you doing your job so well, that made us do our job better.
38:13That's how we got Gracie back to her mom.
38:15Oh, that's a win for both of us.
38:16Because now I don't have to prepare a defense for a child killer.
38:21Should we go home, see our kids?
38:23Yes, please.
38:24All right.
38:32Commander, I'm just now finding out there's going to be an investigation into Gamble.
38:37You didn't think to tell me?
38:38It's been a busy day.
38:39These are career-ending accusations.
38:41Where the hell is the evidence?
38:42Gamble went to visit her family.
38:43The next day, a police raid on their stash house came up empty.
38:47Sounds like a whole lot of speculation to me.
38:49She was visiting family.
38:50That doesn't make her a criminal.
38:53I took in Daryl after he got out of juvie while his father was in prison.
38:57I went into business with Daryl and Leroy after he got out.
39:00Does that make me a criminal?
39:02You're going to investigate me as well?
39:03I know you want to believe Gamble, but could you 100% vouch for her?
39:09Yes.
39:10It's okay not to be certain.
39:12In fact, I want my officers to entertain some doubt.
39:15Okay, that's funny.
39:17Because I don't see you doing none of that when it comes to Gamble.
39:19That's why it's better to investigate.
39:21If Gamble's innocent, this will all get worked out.
39:24If?
39:25You too?
39:26And I'm benching Gamble until the inquiry's done.
39:29Sir, if you pull her from active duty, people are going to automatically assume she's done something wrong.
39:34I'll connect with you tomorrow, and I expect both of you to accept the findings of this investigation.
39:44And if Gamble's guilty?
39:46You'll expect me to fall on my sword.
39:47I think she'd prefer to disembowel me herself.
39:55You want to tell Gamble she's benched, or shall I?
39:58You should have had Gamble's back.
40:01Like you just did.
40:03I saw you hesitate when Bennett asked if you'd stake your reputation in the teams on Gamble.
40:07When I gave you carte blanche to pick someone for the team, that wasn't a go-ahead to throw a human grenade into the middle of SWAT.
40:18Now Bennett's going to use this as an excuse to come in here with her witch's broom and do a clean sweep through SWAT.
40:24So what?
40:25We ain't got nothing to hide.
40:28All these years.
40:31Are you telling me you're still that naive about the way the world works?
40:34You're dismissed.
40:55Hey, Mrs. Marks.
40:59Officer Tan.
41:01You got news on my Kenesha?
41:03I'm sorry.
41:04I wish I did.
41:05I was just thinking about her today.
41:07I'm sorry.
