00:00For Grassroots Lobby Group Reform BCC, it's cause for celebration, after administrators
00:08for the embattled Canberra Private School announced Christian Community Ministries as
00:13their pick for a new operator.
00:15We're really excited that the school's moving forward with some really positive news when
00:20it comes to the governance arrangements around for Brindabella.
00:24The development comes six weeks after the college entered voluntary administration,
00:29owing millions of dollars to about 200 creditors, including the Australian Tax Office.
00:34And seven days after the ACT Legislative Assembly passed an urgent amendment bill to fast track
00:40the school's registration transfer process.
00:43There's some real financial implications and the administrators have made it very clear
00:48that the money is running out, so they do need a new provider to come in sooner rather than
00:53later.
00:54This has been a very stressful experience for all concerned over many years.
00:58Christian Community Ministries operates 14 kindergarten to year 12 schools and several early
01:03learning centres around the country, with 1,500 staff serving 7,800 students.
01:10If they were successfully running schools in various states around Australia, you would hope
01:15that they were competent at doing so and that they could bring some sort of stability to Brindabella.
01:22We want a school that can continue to thrive, it's got great teachers, it's got loyal parents
01:28and great kids there.
01:30What it needs is governance.
01:33In the Administrator's statement, CCM Chief Executive John Linden said the organisation's
01:38first priority is to restore certainty and trust for Brindabella Christian College.
01:43While the ACT Government, which had been mulling regulatory action, said its priority is ensuring
01:49the quality and continuity of learning for all ACT students.
01:54Community consultation is now underway until May 7th.
