00:00Opposition leader Peter Dutton says he wants to have AFP officers in every state and territory
00:07specifically tasked with cracking down on the trafficking of illegal drugs into the country.
00:14He says he wants to have better detection at Australia's borders.
00:18It's part of a broader crime push by the opposition leader today,
00:22including establishing a 12-month trial of a national child sex offender disclosure scheme.
00:28Now, the way that would work is that parents could ask authorities to find out
00:33if someone working with their child has a history in child sex offending.
00:37It's a bit different to his 2019 idea,
00:40which would have seen those names of child sex offenders publicly disclosed.
00:45Now, we know the issue of crime worked for the LNP here in the Queensland state election,
00:51but also in the Northern Territory for the CLP during their election.
00:55But look, with early voting beginning tomorrow,
00:58we are still awaiting more policy detail from the opposition,
01:02including things like defence spending.
01:05But we have actually heard from coalition figures who say
01:08that the sort of slower release of policy detail is actually by design.
01:13They don't think that necessarily everyone is switching into politics
01:16until this sort of tail end right towards the polling day on May 3.
01:21We'll see you soon.
