00:00888-957-9570. Why or why not? 888-957-9570. Again, same number to call or text.
00:07Mark Barkley wants to join in the conversation. Mark, how do you feel about tonight's game, man? Good morning.
00:13I'm excited to hear what Slater says about. I missed the game. I overslept after work.
00:18I was more shocked to find out Kaminga didn't play than that we lost. What's going on?
00:22And I wanted to say this about momentum. Ben Maller says there's no such thing as momentum in sports.
00:28Why does he say that? And he's serious. Because he's never played.
00:31And maybe, maybe. You guys are both great. I want to talk about some positives that we have that other teams don't have.
00:39We have a coach that can't be fired. We've got you guys. We've got Tim Roy. We've got the best player in the league.
00:44We've got Butler. We should win. Think about the positives. And we're getting to the free throw line now.
00:51Yeah. Amazing. A couple of years ago, it would be like 12 attempts, six misses. Now it's like 20. I can't believe it.
00:58Is it all Butler doing that for us? We should win these games.
01:02Well, it's funny you bring that up. They were bottom of the league before Jimmy Butler got here.
01:06They finished the season. Real quick. Yes. Steve Kerr, you guys, and Tim Roy, we should win this game.
01:12Yeah. That was all tied.
01:14The Warriors were one of the worst teams in the league in terms of getting their opponents to foul per game.
01:23They ended up finishing the season 19th. And that is strictly because of the Jimmy acquisition.
01:29They would have finished bottom four, bottom five.
01:31You know what they did against the Grizzlies last time? 28 of 28 at the free throw line.
01:35Yeah.
01:3528 of 28. And Jimmy was 12 of 12. Steph was 8 of 8.
01:38And I think we got into a little bit of argument about the foul calls the day after because they got a bunch of them.
01:42But Buddy Heald even knocked out a couple. Guy Santos off the bench. So again, do that. Right? Do that.
01:47I'm just going to, you know, Ben Maller doesn't believe in momentum. Well, Ben Maller.
01:51Ben Maller, Fox Sports Radio, baby.
01:53He's been doing the same shtick for the last 20 years at four in the morning.
01:57They're in the air everywhere.
01:58I'm just going to say this. If you don't think momentum is a real thing, like, I don't know what else to say.
02:03Depends on the sport. My dad always used to say in baseball, the momentum is only as good as your next starting pitcher.
02:09So, well, baseball's different.
02:11Carrying over from game to game is different. I'm talking about within the flow of a game.
02:14Well, no. Absolutely.
02:15I mean, come on.
02:16Well, 28 to 3 on line one, right?
02:17Yeah, exactly.
02:18Watched the overtime the other day when Harden hit that first three.
02:21It was like, oh, boom. Then he hit the second one.
02:23It was like, they're winning this.
02:23Well, that threw off the turnover, too.
02:25Exactly. They're winning this game.
02:26So, I believe in it. I mean, that's just how I roll.
02:29That's why I believe, like, a coach has a big influence on momentum.
02:32Popovich was excellent at it. You see Spolster do it.
02:35Calling a timeout when the other team is gathering offensive momentum.
02:39Right.
02:39Or when your team is starting to slip away, calling timeout and stabilizing things and slowing it down.
02:45Popovich was notorious doing that.
02:46Even if it was anything as a 5-0 run.
02:48Let's say his team had, like, a double-digit 15-point lead.
02:50Quick 5-0 run. Boom.
02:51No.
02:52Exactly.
02:52Let's come back.
02:53Yeah.
02:54What do you make of this stat?
02:55I'll tell you.
02:56Memphis is 0-8 this year against teams on the West Coast.
02:59Against, so when they go to the West Coast.
03:03Yep.
03:03Interesting.
03:04I don't know what to make of that.
03:06Me neither.
03:07Because, like, if you look at the regular season, like, were those back-to-backs?
03:10Were that...
03:10That tells me, honestly, like, you can take that both ways.
03:12Oh, well, that's great for the Warriors.
03:14Or the Grizzlies are due to win one there.
03:16Like, it's...
03:17Right?
03:17That's one or the other.
03:18Sample size.
03:19Sure.
03:19But, like, again...
03:20But, like, what do you make of it?
03:21Like, I don't even know if that's a thing in a one-game sample size.
03:24And you were just talking about, like, the rest and the travel.
03:25Like, they've been, like, their start has been resting now.
03:27They're chilling.
03:29And have they just been...
03:30Like, I guess they didn't know where they were going.
03:32No, they sat every one Sunday.
03:34So, I did a bunch of research on that.
03:35I was going to say, were they staying somewhere in the middle of California to know whether
03:38they're playing the Clippers or what?
03:39They basically sat their top seven guys heading into this game.
03:44You know, and it's Zach Eadie.
03:46Their rotation's going to be something along the lines of this.
03:49All right?
03:49You're going to have...
03:50I think the start, they're going to do what they did last time.
03:52Jaron Jackson Jr.
03:53Yep.
03:53Zach Eadie.
03:54Yep.
03:55Ja Morant.
03:55Yep.
03:56Desmond Bain.
03:57Mm-hmm.
03:58And who are they going to go with?
03:59Probably Williams.
04:01Probably Williams.
04:01Okay.
04:02I was going to say...
04:02Maybe Scottie Pippen.
04:02I was thinking Scottie Pippen.
04:04That's a tough spot for the young guys.
04:05I think he comes off the bench.
04:07Okay.
04:07But it's a toss-up.
04:08Yeah.
04:09They have Aldama, who's going to come off the bench.
04:12Who's had moments against the Warriors?
04:14He had 18 last game against them.
04:15Luke Kennard.
04:17This guy, Conchar, who might...
04:19Conchar.
04:20Yeah, whatever.
04:21I forgot how he's pronounced it wrong.
04:22Who might play.
04:22They might not.
04:23I mean, they're very up in the air on him.
04:24Is he hurt?
04:25Well, they just don't know if he...
04:27They want to pare down their rotation.
04:29That's what they kept talking about.
04:30And then Lamar Stevens is a guy that, if one of these perimeter defenders gets in foul
04:34trouble, he's a guy that's going to come off the bench.
04:36These are random names.
04:38I just want people out there.
04:39You're going to get familiarized with them tonight.
04:40I apologize.
04:41You were right.
04:41This is Conchar.
04:42There's another one that's like Conchar somewhere else, but this is...
04:45You were correct.
04:45Okay.
04:46In your pronunciation.
04:47All right?
04:47Okay.
04:47I wanted to give you your flowers there.
04:49You're doing a good job.
04:49But the Jalen Wells thing, this is a guy who started 74 games to them, played in 79.
04:55That fall he had was so scary.
04:57I'm actually relieved it was only a wrist injury because the way he fell.
05:00Remember, they had to bring out the stretcher for him.
05:02It was really...
05:02Yeah.
05:02He was shooting 35% from three, so he was a serviceable three-point shooter.
05:07This is a guy who was a big loss for them.
05:118-8-8, 9-5-7, 9-5-7-0.
05:15Grizzlies, Warriors tonight.
05:16The matchup that you're looking at the most in this one is what?
05:19And is Jonathan Kaminga.
05:21Are you playing him tonight?
05:22Are you playing him tonight?
05:23I'm not asking him whether Steve Kerr should or not.
05:25I'm asking the fans.
05:27Are you playing Kaminga tonight?
05:28Well, here's the reason why I would.
05:29Here's the reason why I would.
05:30Because I think perimeter defense is going to be vitally important for the Warriors tonight.
05:34And I think he is one of your better perimeter defenders.
05:37And I think you can't go to zone against this team.
05:40Now, Wells was a part of this.
05:42But on December 19th, they hit a franchise record.
05:45The Grizzlies did against the Warriors.
05:4727 threes.
05:48And that was a game where you had a lot of poor perimeter defenders out there.
05:53Lindy Waters, as much as he tried, was not a perimeter defender.
05:56Lindy Waters played a lot in the first couple of games against the Grizzlies.
06:00He's not even on the team right now.
06:01Dennis Schroeder, in the January game, played a lot.
06:05And so, I think Kaminga fits.
06:07He was having a really good game in that game before.
06:10Was it Brandon Clark?
06:11Who's out for the season with an injury.
06:14He, you know, fell down on his leg.
06:17I think Kaminga should play tonight.
06:19How much is a different question.
06:20But I think he is one of your better players in this matchup.
06:24This is a specific matchup.
06:26You need perimeter defense.
06:27I think his athleticism is something that can be utilized.
06:30I think his rebounding, because he has rebounded better in the games that he's played.
06:35I'm not saying you play him 30 minutes.
06:37I think you find 5 to 10 and see how it goes.
06:40Well, I just know, judging off of last game, no one else really stepped up from the young guys.
06:45The others, as we call them.
06:46Like, they played a lot of Quentin post-minutes.
06:48He played 20 minutes.
06:48He wasn't very good.
06:49He had 9 points.
06:50And if he's not shooting the ball well, he's not really doing a whole hell of a lot.
06:533 of 9 from beyond the arc there.
06:54Buddy Heal didn't do a lot.
06:562 of 7 for him.
06:56Not a lot.
06:57Guy Santos, 1 of 5.
06:59Kevon Looney didn't do it.
07:00He had that buzzer beater 3.
07:02But he was there just to have size, right?
07:04Pods didn't have as great a shooting performance.
07:06Can he pick up what he just did against the Clippers?
07:08He had some turnovers, some bad ones.
07:10But he also was shooting the hell out of the ball.
07:11And he's not afraid of the moment, as we know.
07:13Moses Moody's the guy I'm looking at tonight.
07:15Can he get back that swagger that we all saw for months on end when he kept getting double-digit scoring, double-digit scoring, double-digit scoring?
07:23I know what he's going to give me defensively.
07:25I want him to be aggressive tonight.
07:26I want him to get hit to his spot, knock down a couple threes, and everything's going to be all hunky-dory.
07:32He didn't have Gary Payton in the last matchup against the Grizzlies.
07:35How much action is he going to get tonight?
07:36And how important is it for him to get off to a hot start scoring?
07:39Because you just kept talking about yesterday, a lot of the show was, man, he got some open looks, Gary.
07:43You got to hit him.
07:43He just looked hesitant.
07:45I heard Dibs yesterday talking about it.
07:46He thought he looked scared.
07:48Like, he didn't want to shoot the ball.
07:49That's all I know.
07:50And he had opportunities to do so.
07:52So getting these guys involved early, shooting the ball, and that's where I'm looking at Steph, Jimmy, Draymond, his ball distributors, getting the others involved early.
07:59I think he'll pay off later in that game.
08:01I agree with that.
08:02And I think what I'm expecting early is not a lot of motion.
08:06I'm actually expecting them to run a lot of pick and roll at Edie and Ja Morant.
08:10Make both of them be backup defenders.
08:13And then get JJJ.
08:14You can pick on Ja.
08:15You can pick on him.
08:15I agree.
08:16But get JJJ as a help defender and try to get some cheapo depo fouls on him early.
08:21You don't want to attack him in an iso because he's so good at moving his feet.
08:26You want to get him coming over trying to block a shot late and, you know, drawing what I would call, you know, 50-50 fouls.
08:34He's – Jaren Jax is a very interesting player.
08:36He's a leaper, so he's going to want to leap.
08:38You look at the guy and he's chiseled out of granite.
08:41Like, I've been to Rome.
08:43I've been to Venice.
08:44He could be a statue up there with David.
08:46He is that guy.
08:47Okay.
08:48He's a beast.
08:49But why does he play not to his size sometimes?
08:52I feel like he doesn't.
08:53Maybe that's a credit to Draymond Green being an elite defender on him.
08:56But, like, and Draymond talked about after the game last time, right?
08:59Like, he's too smart or he's been in this league too long to have dumb fouls.
09:03Remember how we were playing some of the sound after?
09:04Well, they play at a quick pace, though, offensively.
09:06And so I think he's the trailer in a lot of these plays.
09:09And he's going to get that wide-open, top-of-the-key trail three.
09:12And I think he just takes it all the time.
09:15But you look at Zach Eady and Jaren Jackson Jr.
09:17And you look at the size of the Warriors in that starting lineup,
09:19which I'm assuming is going to be the same starting lineup they had
09:21against the Clippers, Draymond, Jimmy, Steph, Moody, and Pajemski.
09:25The Warriors out-rebounded them in that game.
09:2749-43.
09:29And I talked about it.
09:30They doubled their offensive rebounds, the Warriors.
09:33They doubled up on the Grizzlies in offensive rebounds.
09:35That's insane to me.
09:36That's insane.
09:37JJ was off the floor for the first whatever when they had the 44 points.
09:40He sent those that four of them.
09:41Is he going to get another DMP?
09:43I hope not.
09:43He had a great game against the last time just being that hustle guy.
09:46I think it's all hands on deck tonight.
09:48As much as they, like, because the Clipper matchup was very specific.
09:51They had just a very specific team.
09:54I think this one is more like, I think you need the energy and the effort of all.
09:58And especially because you're at home.
10:00Sorry, I didn't mean to cut you off there.
10:01You're listening to 95.7 The Game, KGMZ, FM, and HD1, San Francisco,
10:04and Odyssey Sports Station, always live in the free Odyssey app.
10:06And now broadcasting live from the Laughing Monk Studios.
10:10By the way, be sure you're locked in today.
10:12Hey, you're already locked in the morning roast if you're listening right now.
10:15But between the 7.30 and 8.30 segments, so 7.30 and 8.30,
10:20you've got to be listening to both those segments, 7.30, 8.30, we're playing Know the Show.
10:25We're giving out tickets, Grizzlies, Warriors, tonight.
10:28You've got to be listening between those times because around 8.45,
10:31we're going to ask a question about what happened on the show between those times.
10:35You call in, be the first caller, and we'll give out the contest line then,
10:38and you will be going to tonight's game between the Warriors and Grizzlies.
10:42Talk about star power, talk about fun.
10:44Like, we were talking about the Clippers, obviously Kawhi, James Harden,
10:46but Draymond, Jimmy, Steph, Ja, where Ja's been on in all the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
10:52It's for some of the right.
10:53I'm not going to say wrong because you know what?
10:55He's been playing his ass off lately.
10:57I get it.
10:58Everyone wants to talk about, like, the gun celebration and the grenade throws.
11:02And, you know, we poke fun of it.
11:04I know you take it a little more seriously.
11:05The grenade throw for me, I think it's a cool celebration.
11:07It's fun.
11:07I get it with his history in the past.
11:09It's shadowing what has been a really fun stretch for him as a player scoring the ball.
11:15You just look back, the Denver game wasn't great.
11:178-21 overall for him, 21 points.
11:19But prior to that, 36 points, 28 points, 30 points, 36, 26, 44.
11:26Like, you keep going, and it's efficient scoring.
11:28So that's the guy right there.
11:30Force him to do a little bit more on the defensive end.
11:32Pick on him if you can, please.
11:34And they'll come in waves.
11:35Like, this is a team that scores in bunches.
11:38They go through droughts, and then they come roaring back.
11:41They were up, again, last game.
11:42They had 45 points up against them, and you had a 13-point lead.
11:46And that was gone.
11:48And they stabilized things a little bit.
11:50But then in that third quarter, you had outscored 37-29, and it got tight.
11:53It got tight.
11:54It got tight.
11:55Jaron Jackson fouls out.
11:56Rest is history.
11:57Steph puts the team on his back.
11:59Drops 52.
11:59I would love another 52 tonight, if I'm being honest, from Stephen Curry.
12:03It would be great, but the fact that you needed that 52 last game, because no one else was
12:06really stepping up scoring the ball, other than Jimmy Beller, but a lot of that was from
12:09the foul line, got me a little nervous.
12:12A little nervous for tonight, but I'm being positive.
12:14I'm going to actually go in another direction.
12:15I know that you were going to say, hey, this is a big Steph game.
12:18And I agree.
12:18It's obviously, every game's a big Steph game when you get to this point in the calendar.
12:21I just don't want eight turnovers.
12:23Can I get that from Steph?
12:24That's the watermark.
12:25I'm going to give you the number.
12:26The number is 45.
12:28Can the Buddy Heald, you know, JK, Guy Santos, Pods, GP2, can that group, Moody, can that
12:38group get me 45?
12:39If they get me 45, we win going away.
12:42Let's talk to Oreo Cookie.
12:44Let's talk to JW and Union City.
12:46That's Shasky right there saying, you know what?
12:48If I get the contributions from these couple of players around 45.
12:51So I'm going to say it right now.
12:53QP.
12:53QP.
12:54Okay.
12:55Uh, Moody.
12:56Moses Moody.
12:58Pods.
12:58Pods.
12:59GP2.
13:01Kaminga.
13:02Oh, you're out.
13:02You're out in Kaminga in there.
13:03I am going to add Kaminga in there.
13:04Okay.
13:04One, two, three, four, five.
13:06I got 45 from those guys.
13:07If I can get 45 or more, that I think we're going to be really sitting pretty.
13:11You're looking at the bench last time they played the Grizzlies.
13:13And again, no Gary Payton in that game or Kaminga.
13:16We'll see if both of those players play tonight.
13:18I'm looking at seven points, 16.
13:20They had 24 points from their bench.
13:22That's not good enough.
13:23That's not good enough.
13:24But also, um, you know, Moses Moody just didn't have a great shooting game.
13:28Yeah.
13:29And I think they like, he needs to bust out in the worst way.
13:32God, it'd be nice for him to have a couple of big threes early in this game.
13:35Uh, you can still get tickets by the way.
13:37Warriors.com.
13:38I want to get that known.
13:39He so do.
13:39Yeah, he is.
13:40I hope, I hope this is the coming out party because God, if you get the win and you have
13:45a Moses Moody game, the confidence for him and the team when he's shooting the ball well
13:49and he's already doing what he's doing defensively heading into a playoff series.
13:53Yeah.
13:53That would be huge.
13:54Oreo cookie.
13:55What's up, Oreo?
13:55What you got, man, on tonight's game?
13:57How are we feeling?
13:59Hey, what up?
14:00What up?
14:00Am I a winner?
14:00Did I call?
14:01No, no, sorry, Oreo.
14:04Yeah, yeah.
14:06Hey, man, so I resisted myself yesterday from calling because everything was so negative
14:11and everything was going against Kerr, which, you know, I have been on him a whole year,
14:16but let's talk a little bit of positivity.
14:20After all the turnovers, after all the non-rebounds and no loose balls that we got to, we were right
14:28there at the end.
14:29We were right there.
14:30A couple of moves here and there, a couple of plays here and there, and we would have
14:34won that game.
14:35Let's not forget the Clippers are one of the hottest teams in the NBA, but what I do want
14:42to stop is when we do get a defensive rebound, can we stop trying to do an outlet pass all
14:49the way to the other side?
14:50Because those are getting picked off.
14:52Can we give Jimmy the ball to bring it up?
14:56Because we're so lazy to get the ball over the halfway line when I'm looking at it like,
15:03okay, we barely got it over, and now we've got to get into our sets.
15:07And I think they're taking a little bit too long to get into our sets, but at the same
15:12time, that outlet pass, we got to stop that.
15:14Every possession is key today.
15:16Yeah, it is.
15:18Thanks, Oreo.
15:18888-957-9570.
15:21Let's go to J-Dub in Union City who wants to join in the conversation as well.
15:25J-Dub, how are we doing?
15:26How are we feeling about tonight's game and some of these matchups, ma'am?
15:30Yeah, good morning, fellas.
15:31How are we doing?
15:32Great.
15:32I'm nervous.
15:33Oh, I'm feeling positive, energetic.
15:35Oh, understandable.
15:37Understandable to feel nervous, but, you know, I know y'all are talking about matchups.
15:41I really think it mainly comes down to, you know, the Warrior Slashers leading with Jimmy
15:45Butler and Jaron Jackson Jr., right?
15:48I mean, we see when Jaron stays out of foul trouble, he's a DPOY caliber kind of guy, right?
15:53But as we all have seen as well, he usually can't stay out of foul trouble.
15:58But I think what's so important with that is, again, how do you attack the paint?
16:02And how do you control what the Grizzlies do, not only defensively, but I think in their
16:06rotations?
16:07Because remember, they just saw what the Clippers were able to do in the paint with Zubox, right?
16:12And I'm not saying Zach Eady is the same caliber of guy, but that is a big body that you have
16:16to worry about.
16:17But they're not going to want to play him, you know, I don't think 25, 30, XYZ amount of
16:22minutes.
16:22I think that really changes things.
16:24And, you know, you can kind of get in his head a little bit with what the Warriors do
16:28offensively.
16:28So if you make him have to play even more minutes than what the Grizzlies probably want,
16:33that shifts things even more in the Warriors' favor, even though as big as he is.
