Transcript
00:00Right, so we're at the Butter and Freezer Centre in Cannock, and Ken, you're celebrating 60 years of being here, aren't you?
00:09That's correct, yes.
00:10That's incredible. And it's 65 years as a butcher, isn't it?
00:13As a butcher, yep.
00:14So how old were you when you started? About five?
00:19Fifteen, to be honest.
00:20Fifteen, were you? Blimey. Goodness me. So how's it feel to be here 60 years?
00:25Pretty good, really, especially with the family around me.
00:27Yeah, yeah. So you're having a bit of a do today, are you?
00:30Well, no, no, we've already had that.
00:32Oh, right, right. Lovely. So you're Ken's grandson, aren't you?
00:38And you're Ken's son, aren't you?
00:40That's correct.
00:40So it's a generation thing, isn't it? Is it going to be passed down through the generations, is it?
00:46It will be, yep.
00:47Yeah, fantastic. So how does it feel to work together as a family?
00:50Okay.
00:51We don't have enough problems.
00:53That's my word.
00:54So what are the plans now, Ken? Have you got any plans to give it up or are you still enjoying it?
01:02Not yet, no.
01:03No, no.
01:04I've cut down the hours, but I haven't packed the ball together.
01:06No. I must say you look great for your age, mate. You're 80 now, aren't you?
01:10Yeah, that's great.
01:10Yeah, unbelievable. Fantastic. So it's obviously keeping you, you know, fit and healthy working here.
01:16Well, that's the hopes, I suppose.
01:17Yeah.
01:18And I bet you've seen some changes, haven't you, over the years?
01:22Oh, hell of a lot.
01:22Yeah.
01:23What would you say is like the biggest changes, do you think?
01:27Just the way they're buying meat nowadays is they don't know where they do so much as what they're used to.
01:31Really? Yeah. Yeah.
01:33I mean, it's the one tradition, you can't really go online, can you? That's the thing, you can't really sell online.
01:38Well, we're advertising online, but that's all.
01:39Yeah, yeah, that's it. But you've got some good customers, have you?
01:43Well, we've had them for a few years.
01:44Yeah, yeah, fantastic. Well, all the best anyway.
01:48Right, thank you very much.
01:48Enjoy your celebrations, and I'll see you again when you're supposed to. It's going to be 70 years next time.
01:54Eh, my God. Let's give them to your fingers crossed.
01:57That's it. All right then. All the best anyway, guys.
