Transcript
00:00We're here at the White Swan in Dudley and we're here with, introduce yourself, Leanne Mayerson.
00:04So Leanne, your sister's not been doing too well, just fill us in on what's going on with your sister at the minute.
00:10So my sister's got lung cancer which is also in a spion.
00:14She's been receiving chemotherapy and immunotherapy at Russell's Hall Hospital
00:19but that's due to stop in about six months time.
00:26So they're pulling the funding. Is that the funding for like for everyone?
00:30Basically. Is it like coming off the list or do they just fund it for everyone but just for a limited period?
00:35I think it's a dog for the immunotherapy. They said it's like a two-year commitment that they do for the NHS.
00:43So they said to her, have you got insurance? And she's called and said, no, I haven't got insurance.
00:47So they said, well, you're going to be having to pay for this yourself.
00:50Privately, yeah. So obviously they suggested maybe setting up a GoFund page.
00:56So yeah, obviously we're going to try everything we can to try.
00:59Keep her, you know, it's working, it's shrinking.
01:03So if she doesn't have this immunotreatment, what happens then?
01:08Well, potentially the disease will spread.
01:11So it's the kind of keeping it at that level where it is.
01:14Keeping it at bay. Yeah, yeah.
01:15So it's 50 grand a year for the treatment.
01:18So today, your friend Kim, she's organised this event.
01:23What's going on here today?
01:24So we've got supercars, we've got quad bikes, there's raffle tickets, a tombola.
01:30And it's just everyone doing everything they can, isn't it?
01:34Yeah, yeah.
01:35And she's got her hands full, hasn't she?
01:36Your sister, Laurie, she's a lad's autistic.
01:40She is, 14 years old, autistic, non-verbal.
01:44It depends on her for everything.
01:46So she's really going through it.
01:48How's she holding up at the minute?
01:50She's very anxious at the moment.
01:53She's, you know, she's struggling, but she's a warrior.
01:56Yeah, yeah.
01:57She's, honestly, she's an amazing person.
02:01She does everything for everyone.
02:03Still now.
02:05Yeah.
02:05She thinks of everybody else.
02:06Kim, you're the organiser of today, aren't you?
02:08I am, yes.
02:08So how do you know Laurie?
02:10She's an old friend from when we were teenagers.
02:13So from way back when?
02:15Many, many years.
02:16Yeah.
02:17And she obviously means a lot to you, yeah?
02:20Of course, yes.
02:20Yeah.
02:21What kind of person is she?
02:23Do you know what?
02:23She's always been like the firebrand.
02:25Yeah.
02:25She's got a big heart and she really deserves to be here.
02:29Yeah.
02:29So we've gone all out today, haven't we?
02:31Yeah.
02:31We've got, I love this banner you've had done specially.
02:34We've got a kid's bouncy castle.
02:36Yes, we do.
02:37Do you know what?
02:37It's amazing how the whole community has come together.
02:40Yeah, yeah.
02:41As a special person.
02:42She really does deserve it.
02:43Yeah.
02:44And so why here at the White Swan then?
02:46Is this your local, is it?
02:47It's my local, yes.
02:48Yeah?
02:48It's a good cup, good food, decent drinks.
02:52Yeah.
02:52Good stuff.
02:53Plenty of space.
02:54Well, we'll wish you all the best with today.
02:55So, Leanne, we've got a family with you now then.
02:57You have indeed.
02:58So this is Laurie.
03:00Hiya.
03:00And Laurie.
03:02Laurie.
03:03And introduce us.
03:04This is your lad, isn't it, Laurie?
03:05Kyron.
03:06Kyron.
03:06Hello, Kyron.
03:07And your partner as well.
03:09Wayne.
03:09Hello, Wayne.
03:10So, we've had a little chat with your sister about what's been going on.
03:14I mean, it's insane.
03:15People think you get ill, you go to hospital and they just look after you and they don't
03:19realise all these, you know, we're not funding this, we're not funding that.
03:22Must have been a kick in the groin when you heard that.
03:25But how does it feel today to see the community coming together to support you?
03:30It's really heartwarming, you know.
03:32Yeah.
03:32Yeah, like, I'm so grateful.
03:35Yeah, it's amazing, this turnout, isn't it, to be fair.
03:38Yeah, yeah.
03:39They say, don't they, about the black country people, you know, when it needs be, they'll
03:43come together, like, you know what I mean.
03:46And what about Ky?
03:47Does he like his sports cars?
03:50He's even lovely.
03:51Isn't he, Ky?
03:52Yeah.
03:53He's got cars.
03:53He's got his sick, non-verbal, isn't he?
03:55Yeah, your sister was telling us, yeah, yeah.
03:57Yeah, he's going to love his cars.
04:00Yeah, yeah.
04:01Do you want to see the cars?
04:03Yes or no?
04:04Good lad, good lad.
04:05So if you had to take one of these cars home, which one would you be taking?
04:10The Lamborghini.
04:12Definitely the Lamborghini.
04:13Yeah, that's been nice, wouldn't it?
04:15I would pick the red one, though, because he loves red.
04:17He likes the red colours, yeah, yeah.
04:19He loves bright red.
04:20Yeah, yeah.
04:21So, at the minute, you're just battling through, at the minute,
04:25yeah, just trying to keep strong for the family.
04:27Yeah, yeah, that's the only thing I can do.
04:29It's my only option, you know.
04:31Yeah.
04:31Just keep strong in my mind and hope for the best.
04:35If there's a message out there you'd kind of say to people,
04:39you know, who take their health for granted,
04:43I mean, this can happen to any of us, can't it?
04:44You know, one minute you're ticking along fire in the next minute.
04:47Is there any message you'd like to send out there?
04:50Yeah, keep fighting them, I don't know what.
04:52Yeah, yeah.
04:53You can get through it.
04:54Keep battling.
04:54Yeah.
04:55I didn't think two years ago, or two years ago, I didn't pick up beer and the money.
04:59Yeah, yeah, yeah.
05:01But, you know, in my mind now, I'm just trying to be strong, you know what I mean?
05:05Yeah, my mindset's definitely a strong thing.
05:09Yeah, yeah.
05:09100%.
05:10Yeah.
05:12Yeah.
05:13Well, we wish you all the best with your ongoing health, Laurie.
05:16Okay, love, take care.
05:17Cheers, guys.
