00:00Our universities and colleges should be about education, not indoctrination.

00:04We see what's going on all across the United States in higher education.

00:08It's been appalling to watch how unhinged these universities have become.

00:14In Florida, we're ranked number one for higher education in part because we don't tolerate that nonsense.

00:20We have worked hard to get woke out of our institutions of higher education

00:24and to make sure they're focused on the classical mission of what a university should be,

00:29pursuing truth, making sure we're teaching students to think for themselves

00:33and ultimately preparing them to be citizens of this republic.

00:37No one's done it better. No one's made more progress.

00:40And yet, Republicans in the Florida House of Representatives are proposing legislation to undo this progress,

00:48to pave the way, to re-woke-ify the universities, to throw a lifeline to the political left.

00:54They do not want elected officials to hold universities accountable.

00:59They want these universities to simply be able to do whatever the heck they want on your dime.

01:04We know how that will work.

01:06They will revert back to leftist ideology,

01:08and then they will be more similar to the Columbia's than they are to Florida institutions that we've grown to know and love.

01:15I don't think any of these House members campaigned on trying to reverse what we've done in higher education.

01:23In fact, the voters that elected all of us to office don't want the universities to be bastions of leftist ideology.

01:30They want universities to be focusing on their core mission.

01:33So this legislation is designed to undo the progress that voters have demanded,

01:39and it's undoing the progress that has proven to be a great success story that other states are now seeking to emulate.

01:47So let's make sure that we're standing strong for good classical higher education.

01:52Do not turn the reins over to unelected bureaucrats inside the universities.

01:58We need to have accountability,

01:59and the people you elect to office need to be able to bring that accountability.
