00:00Yes.
00:01Thank you for being here.
00:02I want to follow up on Joe.
00:03I'm curious if you, you know, I hear you on the importance of efficiency and responsible
00:04spending, but I'm curious, you know, here in Idaho, we've seen some conditions cut
00:05that may relate to fighting wildfires and providing care to veterans.
00:06Do you have any misgivings that those may go too far and cut, you know, critical people
00:07in a critical way?
00:19So I, having talked to President Trump about this, President Trump understands that as
00:25much as we have governments too big, as much as the bureaucracy has gotten out of control,
00:30he understands that there are certain functions that the federal government should be performing
00:35and performing well.
00:36You know, for example, there was this dust up about the national weather service.
00:40You know, president understands he's dealt with these hurricanes like we do in Florida.
00:44He understood.
00:45So he's like, no, no, no, we need that.
00:46So I think it'll all work out because I know President Trump's view is government's doing
00:52a lot of things it shouldn't do, and those are things that we should focus on, but some
00:56of the things that are core functions, well, we should do.
00:59Now there's things that happen within those core functions.
01:02For example, the department of defense, I'm a big supporter of, I'm a veteran, but at
01:07the same time, that's a big bureaucracy and there's a lot of tail bureaucracy and non-tooth,
01:15the tip of the sphere that has grown over the years.
01:18So paring back that actually frees up more money to be able to do more in terms of lethality.
01:25So I think the president totally gets all that.
01:28You're going to see different things that are going to happen here or there, but I think
01:31ultimately it will land in a spot that the American people are going to support.
01:36You know, it's unfortunate, and this is working its way through the courts, and I personally
01:40think the president has Article II authority to hire and fire people within the executive
01:44branch.
01:47That's not how it's been viewed in the more, maybe the last 20, 30 years, but you end up
01:51in this kind of weird situation where probationary employees, even if they're really good, they
01:57can be laid off, but someone who's been there, who has tenure or whatever the protections,
02:02even if they're not good employees, it's much harder to get rid of them.
02:06I don't think that that makes sense, but I think they're working through a lot of this
02:09stuff in the courts, and I think you're going to end up seeing this land in a very, very
02:14good spot.
02:15These are things that, as we have the lowest number of state employees per capita in America
02:20and Florida, and while we're proud of that, we also have invested strongly in disaster
02:26response and emergency management.
02:28We've invested strongly in law enforcement.
02:32We've invested strongly in education.
02:34We've invested strongly in conservation, and I'm doing the biggest environmental restoration
02:39in the world with the Everglades, so we've really focused on things that really matter,
02:44and I think that's President Trump's view as well.
02:48Some of this stuff, I know there's a blip here, a blip there.
02:51Some of this stuff, I think, quite frankly, is not presented accurately by some of the
02:54outlets, but that being said, I do think it'll land in a really good spot.
