A look around Abbey Primary School, Bloxwich.
Transcript
00:00So we are quite a small primary school, we're one form entry so we only have one class in each
00:10year group, right on the edge of Warsaw into Staffordshire and I've been head teacher for
00:16just over 10 years now and was here as deputy head before that and as you'd expect I love
00:22our school, I think that we pride ourselves on knowing the children that come to the school,
00:28knowing their strengths, their love of things and their needs also and I would agree that
00:34all my staff do that as well, we see our children thrive as they come through into our nursery
00:40and then if they stay with us all the way through to year 6 and the curriculum for us is really
00:47important but also that personal development that we pride ourselves on for our children as well.
00:51So we introduced our Opal programme just under two years ago and that was really in response
00:58to trying to help support our children at lunch times particularly, trying to get them to think
01:05about how they play with each other, how they play generally and really build those interactions
01:11for them and now we've got that outdoor playing learning set up, it's really been impactful
01:16for our children, we make use of our wonderful space that we've got around the school which
01:22we didn't before, we used to have football and then perhaps a few activities but you know
01:28it was all centred around the playground and now we've got a whole range of different activities
01:32that keep the children engaged, it builds their self-confidence, it builds conversations,
01:39we've got older children working with younger children which again was quite limited before
01:43and it's really strengthened our provision that we've got for our children at lunch times.
