00:30The U.S. stock market experienced a sharp decline at the close of Tuesday's session, following another day of significant volatility.
00:41After posting gains in the morning, stocks began to dip following President Trump's announcement that the U.S. would impose a 104% tariff on all Chinese imports starting on Wednesday.
00:54The S&P 500 initially surged by 4.1%, a gain that would have been its strongest in years, but quickly reversed course, plummeting by as much as 3% before recovering slightly to end the day down 1.6%.
01:10The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 320 points or 0.8%, while the Nasdaq Composite declined by 2.1%.
01:22The dramatic fluctuations came after global stock markets saw strong rallies earlier in the day,
01:30with indexes rising 6% in Tokyo, 2.5% in Paris and 1.6% in Shanghai.
01:37Despite these gains, analysts had been cautioning that further volatility was likely, with more ups and downs expected in the coming days.
01:47U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has said China continues to pose a significant threat to the Panama Canal, but emphasized that both the U.S. and Panama will keep it secure.
02:02The United States of America will not allow communist China or any other country to threaten the canal's operation or integrity.
02:11To this end, the United States and Panama have done more in recent weeks to strengthen our defense and security cooperation than we have in decades.
02:21Hegseth made the statement during a ribbon cutting for a new U.S. finance dock at the Vasco Nunez de Balboa naval base in Panama,
02:31which followed his meeting with Panama President José Raúl Molino.
02:36Hegseth's visit comes amid tensions over Trump's claims that the U.S. is being overcharged for using the Panama Canal
02:44and that China is influencing its operations.
02:47Panama has denied these allegations.
02:56At least six people have been killed in overnight U.S. airstrikes on Yemen, according to the Houthi rebels.
03:04The strikes hit around Hodaida's Al Hawat district, home to the city's airport, which the Iranian-backed group has used in the past to target shipping in the Red Sea.
03:16Other strikes targeted Yemen's mountainous Amran government, north of the rebel-held capital of Sana'a.
03:26There, the Houthis described American strikes hitting telecommunication equipment.
03:32The U.S. military central command, which oversees American military operations, did not immediately acknowledge the strikes.
03:40The U.S. campaign in Yemen began after the rebels threatened to begin targeting Israeli ships again over Israel blocking aid entering the Gaza Strip.
03:52French President Emmanuel Macron has called for an urgent ceasefire between Hamas and Israel as well as renewed humanitarian aid into Gaza.
04:06His trip to Egypt aims to emphasize the importance of establishing another ceasefire after the previous truce collapsed last month.
04:16The United Nations Secretary General António Guterres has rejected a proposed Israeli plan to ensure that the U.S. has been banned.
04:39The United Nations Secretary General António Guterres has rejected a proposed Israeli plan to control aid into Gaza, which he said risks further controlling and callously limiting aid down to the last calorie.
04:54More than an entire month has passed without a drop of aid into Gaza.
05:01No food, no fuel, no medicine, no commercial supplies.
05:08As aid has dried up, the floodgates of order have reopened.
05:14Gaza is a killing field and civilians are in an endless death slope.
05:19Charity kitchens have been drawing bigger crowds of Palestinians because other sources of food are running out.
05:26More than a month ago, Israel cut off all food, fuel, medicine and other supplies to Gaza's population of more than 2 million, forcing aid groups to ration their stocks.
05:36Two Chinese men fighting for the Russian army were captured in eastern Ukraine, according to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
05:50Zelensky said Ukraine has information there are significantly more Chinese fighting alongside the Russians in the war.
05:57The Ukrainian leader said he ordered his top diplomat to immediately contact Beijing.
06:05semen in Ukraine to even 30олод citizens of Korea.
06:17So this is a number of instrumental provinces on Saqoban Kitts.
06:18China has provided strong diplomatic support for Russia since it launched its full-scale
06:43invasion of Ukraine. However, it hadn't been known to have provided Russia with weapons
06:48or military expertise, unlike Iran and North Korea.
06:55Emergency officials in the Dominican Republic say they have been working to find more survivors
07:00after the roof of an iconic nightclub in the capital, Santa Domingo, collapsed during
07:05a concert by popular singer Ruby Perez. The death toll in the disaster rose to nearly
07:11100, with more than 160 people injured, as of early Wednesday. Authorities have warned
07:17the figure may rise further as crews continue the search for potential survivors and pull
07:23out more bodies. The Professional Baseball League of the Dominican Republic posted on X that one
07:29of its former players was killed in a disaster, while relatives of the singer Perez say he is
07:35among those trapped in the debris. Jet Set, a popular nightclub in Santa Domingo that regularly
07:42hosts dance music concerts on Monday evenings, is regularly attended by politicians, athletes,
07:48and other prominent figures. It wasn't immediately clear what caused the roof to collapse or when the
07:54Jet Set building was last inspected. The club was celebrating its 50th anniversary, according to its
08:01Instagram account. King Charles III and Queen Camilla were welcomed by Italian President Sergio
08:10Mattarella at the Quirinale Palace on Tuesday, on the second day of their state visit to Italy.
08:19The royal couple were escorted to the palace by a group of more than 30 mounted presidential guards,
08:25where they enjoyed a joint flyover by Italy's Frece Tricolori and the RAF's Red Arrows.
08:35The pair then visited some of Rome's iconic landmarks, including the Tomb of the Unknown
08:40Soldier where they laid a wreath and enjoyed a special tour of the Colosseum, meeting school children
08:46and being cheered by crowds. On Wednesday, President Mattarella will host a state banquet for the
09:04royals for their 20th wedding anniversary.
09:12Health concerns crack down on drunk driving. Alcohol consumption per capita fell by 20% in Europe
09:19between 2000 and 2019, according to the World Health Organization. Faced with slumping demand,
09:26some winemakers are betting on alcohol-free wine to diversify sales.
09:30In Belgium, this company produces non-alcoholic wine using vacuum distillation,
09:36a process that preserves flavors and aromas better than the other methods.
09:40So here we start with a beer, all the normal beer. We receive a beer from our customers or suppliers,
09:49French, Spanish, etc. And then we'll pass it in a unit of distillation sous-vide.
09:56So we'll put the beer at 100 mbar absolute, so almost the absolute absolute.
10:02So there, it will only need to heat the beer a little bit to evaporate the alcohol.
10:06The European Commission recently presented a series of measures to ensure the wine sector remains
10:12competitive and resilient. In particular, it proposes supporting the market of zero percent or
10:18low alcohol wines by clarifying the rules on the single market.
10:22From our point of view, the vin without alcohol market allows us to help the wine industry,
10:30in any case for us here, since we first need to produce a vin with alcohol.
10:34And so it allows us to turn the vines, the vines, the caves, and all this part of the sector.
10:42So we're going to add to the end of chain, we're going to be just a step in more.
10:48While some wine growers may have viewed alcohol rebuttals with suspicion in the past,
10:52many have since watered down their wine.
10:56The wine, in a way, becomes a little bit the baby of the winemaker.
11:00And to see it going through a dealkalization process is a bit difficult.
11:05But that was just in the beginning. And then, you know, afterwards,
11:07they understand most winemakers are commercial, have a commercial side as well.
11:13So it's important to adapt to the market. So afterwards, there's, you know, it's a lot more accepted.
11:24For now, the European wine industry is holding its breath and its eyes fixed on the United States.
11:30Donald Trump has threatened to impose a 200 percent surcharge on European wine
11:35if the European Commission retaliates to the terrorists by taxing American bourbon.
