00:00Donald Trump has confirmed he has no plans to suspend global tariffs, despite US markets
00:06closing lower at the end of trading.
00:11President Donald Trump announced the US will hold direct talks with Iran during his meeting
00:16with Prime Minister Netanyahu.
00:20One American and two Russian astronauts launched successfully to the International Space Station
00:27on Tuesday.
00:29UK monarch King Charles III has arrived in Rome for a three-day state visit to Italy.
00:39US President Donald Trump has confirmed he has no plans to suspend global tariffs, despite
00:47another day of turbulence in global stock markets.
00:51Well, we're not looking at that. We have many, many countries that are coming to negotiate
00:56deals with us, and they're going to be fair deals, and in certain cases they're going
01:01to be paying substantial tariffs.
01:05Following big swings throughout the day after Trump threatened additional tariffs on China,
01:10the Dow Jones closed down 0.91% at the end of trading, while the S&P 500 dropped 0.23%,
01:19marking its third straight day of losses.
01:23The tech-focused Nasdaq composite gained 0.1% after fluctuating between losses and gains
01:30multiple times during the session.
01:34Europe's biggest stock markets all closed more than 4% down, with Spanish financial
01:39experts saying there are strong reasons to fear a global recession after the IBEX 35
01:44index closed with a 5.12% drop.
01:50European Trade Ministers met in Luxembourg to weigh possible steps in response to global
01:58tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump.
02:01European Commissioner for Trade Maro Šefcović said the Commission is being careful in prioritizing
02:07negotiated solutions.
02:10This introduces a lot of uncertainty, lack of predictability, inflation fears.
02:19The fact that tariffs are in the end the taxes which will be paid by the businesses,
02:28but especially by the final consumers.
02:32So that in the end increases, of course, the fears among the consumers.
02:38Washington described the tariffs as reciprocal, but German Minister of Economic Affairs Robert
02:43Habeck dismissed that logic.
02:45First, the calculations from my point of view are nonsense, even the basis of the calculation
02:51is nonsense.
02:52Yes, the assumption that a trade budget surplus or deficit is a problem in itself is a wrong
03:01estimation because in the end globalization serves all economies and especially the American
03:07economy has huge growth figures in GDP better than a lot of European countries.
03:14The impact from Trump's tariff hikes has reverberated across world markets as global stocks plunged
03:20on Monday.
03:21The European Commission is offering the US a zero-for-zero deal to remove tariffs on
03:26all industrial goods.
03:29Trump has so far said he won't back down and has reiterated his defense of the strategy.
03:37President Donald Trump has announced the US will hold direct talks with Iran on its nuclear
03:42program starting on Saturday.
03:46Trump made the remarks during his Oval Office meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin
03:51Netanyahu, the first world leader to visit the US president since he imposed tariffs
03:57on countries worldwide.
03:59We're having direct talks with Iran and they've started, it'll go on Saturday, we have a very
04:08big meeting and we'll see what can happen.
04:10During their meeting, Netanyahu also vowed to eliminate Israel's trade deficit with the
04:16US after his country was hit with 17% tariffs last week.
04:22We intend to do it very quickly, we think it's the right thing to do and we're going
04:26to also eliminate trade barriers, a variety of trade barriers that have been put up unnecessarily.
04:34Netanyahu said he and Trump further discussed ongoing efforts to get hostages released from
04:40Gaza and said they are working on another deal.
04:44Meanwhile, hundreds of Israelis protested against Netanyahu and his government in Tel
04:50Aviv following their moves to oust top security and legal officials and to resume war in Gaza.
05:03French President Emmanuel Macron has called for the return of a ceasefire in Gaza after
05:08meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Cairo.
05:13He also urged the lifting of Israel's blockade on humanitarian aid.
05:17We condemn the resumption of Israeli strikes in Gaza, which constitutes a dramatic setback
05:24for the civilian population, the hostages, their families and the entire region.
05:29We call for an immediate return to the ceasefire and the release of all hostages still held
05:37in Gaza.
05:39Macron's meeting with el-Sisi comes after Israel ended its truce with Hamas last month,
05:44cutting off all humanitarian aid to Gaza and resuming its airstrikes and ground offensive.
05:49Egypt and Qatar have served as key mediators in ceasefire negotiations between Israel and
05:54Hamas.
05:55El-Sisi echoed Macron's call for an immediate ceasefire and also rejected calls for the
06:00displacement of Palestinians from their land, something U.S. President Donald Trump has
06:05previously suggested.
06:11A few dozen protesters gathered outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's home,
06:18calling for a deal securing the release of all hostages in Jerusalem on Monday.
06:25The rally marks a year and a half since Hamas militants attacked southern Israel.
06:30One grandmother of a hostage has a message for Netanyahu.
06:56Later on Monday, Netanyahu and Trump are set to meet in Washington, D.C.
07:02Last month, Israel broke the ceasefire with Hamas by bombing Gaza after pressuring militants
07:08to accept new ceasefire terms, a move backed by the White House.
07:13Israel has also hoarded all food, fuel and aid supplies to Gaza.
07:23The Netherlands has launched a so-called weed experiment in ten municipalities, meaning
07:28coffee shops will only sell legally grown cannabis.
07:32The almost 80 participating coffee shops will no longer buy from illegal growers in a move
07:37the Dutch government hopes will regulate the production and sale of cannabis.
07:49German companies are allowed to supply cannabis to coffee shops in the test municipalities.
07:54Preparations for the scheme first started in 2017, but it wasn't until the end of 2023
08:00that legal weed went on sale for the first time.
08:15In addition to the quality, the effect on crime and public health will be measured during
08:19the experiment.
08:23Myanmar and international rescuers continued to clear away rubble on Monday in Naypyitaw,
08:29the country's capital, left by a massive earthquake near Mandalay, Myanmar's second largest city
08:36last week.
08:37According to a statement by the ruling military, the death toll rose to over 3,500 on Sunday,
08:45with 5,012 people injured and 210 missing.
08:49The 7.7-magnitude quake caused significant damage to six regions and states.
08:59One of the Philippines' most active volcanoes erupted Tuesday, sending ash up to 4,000 meters
09:06into the sky.
09:07The explosion of Mount Canlaon on central Negros Islands has raised health concerns
09:13due to the ash fall that hit nearby villages.
09:16Its last eruption in October sent hundreds of villagers to emergency shelters.
09:25One American and two Russian astronauts launched successfully to the International Space Station
09:32on Tuesday, on board a Russian spacecraft, according to the Roscosmos Space Corporation.
09:39NASA astronaut Johnny Kim and Russia's Sergei Ryzhikov and Alexey Zubritsky took off in
09:46a Soyuz booster rocket from the Russia-leased Baikonur launch facility in Kazakhstan.
09:53They are set to dock at the station the same day and are scheduled to stay for about eight
09:59months.
10:01According to NASA, Kim is set to conduct scientific investigations and technology demonstrations
10:08to help prepare the crew for future space missions and provide benefits to people on
10:13Earth.
10:17Kim and the crew of Russian astronauts will join other astronauts already on the space
10:22outpost.

10:41effects and will include the first address to the Italian Parliament of a British monarch,
10:47meetings with Italy's President and Premier, and a trip to Ravenna to commemorate the city's
10:5280th anniversary of liberation.
10:56Charles had been set to meet with Pope Francis, but this was postponed by mutual agreement
11:02due to the Pope's recent hospitalisation with double pneumonia.
11:07While in Rome, Charles is expected to emphasise the strong ties between Britain and Italy
11:12as NATO allies, at a time when European nations are working to bolster support for Ukraine.
