00:00The Federal Opposition, promising money it hopes will win votes in SA's two marginal seats.
00:08It's a particularly great day for residents in the state of Mayo, Sturt and of course my local community in Boothby.
00:16$840 million for a plan to get trucks off the South East Freeway and off of major roads in those crucial electorates.
00:25The Greater Adelaide Freight Bypass would divert trucks around Truro, duplicate the Swanport Bridge and upgrade the Monado Interchange and Level Crossing.
00:34Portrush Road, Cross Road are congested with heavy freight that just does not need to be in our suburban streets.
00:41The Coalition is offering an 80-20 funding split with the State Government.
00:46It's an improvement on a 50-50 split Labor put on the table in last month's federal budget, which set aside $525 million for the project.
00:55Real money on the table. We've got money on the table to deliver this project.
01:01So far there's no matching commitment from the State Government.
01:05The State Government is a believer in the Truro project. We will consider what occurs in the federal election and that will inform our deliberations in the lead up to our state budget.
01:14This project is no stranger to funding promises and cuts.
01:18A smaller Truro bypass had previously been planned until the federal contribution was axed in a National Infrastructure Review by the Albanese Government in 2023.
01:28But it's no surprise that the project is back on the agenda with seats like Sturt and Boothby key to winning a tight election race.
01:36I think it's absolutely integral to our success that we win seats here in South Australia.
01:41I hope today's funding announcement will win it over voters.
