Adelaide to Glenelg tram line to temporarily close for $200 million Morphett Road overpass
A level tram crossing at a busy intersection in Adelaide's south-western-suburbs will be upgraded to tackle growing congestion. The overpass works will mean no tram services will be running south of the city for at least six months.

00:16The state government says more than 100 crashes occurred in the area between 2019 and 2023.
00:23It's prompted the state and federal governments to co-fund a $200 million tram overpass at

00:29Removing the level crossings will be game changing for not just the people who use this
00:35road but for people in the surrounding suburbs.
00:39The state government has confirmed the tram line will be closed between Glenelg and South
00:43Terrace for the last six months of 2025, allowing for planned works at Morfett Road, Crossroad
00:50and Marion Road level crossings to be completed at the same time.
00:54Substitute bus routes will be released closer to the project.
00:58And there will be some additional congestion while we're doing this work, but the long
01:02term gain is worth it.
01:03The state opposition has raised questions over why the project wasn't included in the
01:08recent state and federal budget announcements.
01:11Clearly what's happened is they know that they're under siege in this seat down there,
01:15the federal seat, and that's why they've finally come to the table.
01:19The project is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
