00:00George Square, where we are right now, is set to close next week on the 14th of April for 18 months
00:05while it undergoes a major redevelopment. You're going to see more seating, extra green spaces,
00:10it's going to basically become more sustainable, more drainage systems, it's supposed to be better
00:16for the community. We're out here on George Square soaking up the last of the sun here while we can,
00:22asking people what they would like to see in a redeveloped George Square.
00:27Just some clean space for people to come and sit would be good, green space like well lit at night
00:34that feels just safe as well I think, that'd be good with the new development. Turned into
00:39green spaces, just like the West End has botanic gardens, lots of like green spaces,
00:46I think the city centre should have like lots of green spaces. Unfortunately the closest is
00:52Glasgow Green which is big, not complaining about it, but George Square should be like
00:57much better if it was turned into a green space. It's more on the remembrance side,
01:04they need to leave it out a lot longer, instead of leaving it out for 12 hours it should be out for a
01:09lot longer. I'm an ex-army so that's something I would like to see. I think that when they closed
01:15the roads on either end that was quite good, I think if they do something similar on the other
01:19side, I don't know if it works with the traffic, but having more space for pedestrians to walk
01:24around I think is always a good thing for sustainability as well, less cars on the roads.
01:29What do you think, as I tell what you do, do you think?
01:34I don't know. Hopefully some like some nice seating arrangement over there,
01:41anyway the Glasgow George Square is already beautiful in the sun, especially in the sunny
01:46weather as you know. I don't have any strong opinion on design and so on, but I think it's
01:52absolutely ridiculous that it's going to take a year and a half when all we're doing is ripping
01:57up this grey floor, putting some flagging down, a few grassy bits, a few decent trees,
02:04rearranging the statues, 18 months, ridiculous. It doesn't feel very clean, I think it's felt that
02:09way for quite a while compared to other UK cities, it just feels like it needs a bit of a clean up.
02:14As a communal area, more for stuff to do within the communal area, I know you've got the pubs and
02:19bars around here, but it's a bit more for communal. Because a lot of people come here every day
02:26and it's a lot to do with the pride of the city as well, so I think it is in need of redevelopment.
02:32I think this has a more historic aspect of it, for example Times Square in New York, it's all about
02:40capitalism and advertisement everywhere, same goes to Tokyo in Japan. It's all for stuff to do
02:49within the area, I know it's a lot of seats, a lot of people, somebody's out here quite a bit,
02:54but a bit more for people, for stuff to do within the area.
