00:00I think it's the most fun I've ever had on a set.
00:02I had a blast doing Guardians and playing Adam Warlock,
00:05so I'd love to do it again.
00:06If they call, I'll pick up.
00:08I mean, wall-to-wall Will Poulter,
00:10that's a room you'd have a nightmare in, I think.
00:12Will, good to see you, pal.
00:14Good to see you, too.
00:14Congratulations, and welcome to Will Poulter month, I suppose.
00:19Oh, scary.
00:20I mean, what, there's Death of a Unicorn, there's Warfare,
00:24there's, what, you're back on Black Mirror and Netflix.
00:26Yeah.
00:27I'm sure The Bear might be coming back at some point.
00:29You might be involved in that.
00:30Who's to know?
00:31How are you feeling about all this?
00:32Is this like Dreamland, wall-to-wall Will Poulter,
00:35or do you feel a little bit kind of a bit awkward,
00:38a bit overexposed when projects just seem to all funnel out
00:41at the same time?
00:42I mean, wall-to-wall Will Poulter,
00:43that's a room you'd have a nightmare in, I think.
00:45But I, no, listen, man, I feel so lucky that I've gotten to do,
00:51you know, these various different things.
00:53And the fact that they're all coming out at once,
00:56it just slightly misrepresents how busy I've been.
00:58Plenty of unemployment in between these jobs
01:01and me waiting for the phone to ring.
01:02But yeah, they all seem to be coming out at the same time.
01:04And I'm very lucky and genuinely had such a good time
01:08shooting all of them.
01:09So it's nice to be able to reconvene with some of the cast
01:13and reunite and sort of reminisce.
01:15Well, this chat specifically is about Death of a Unicorn.
01:18So I'll try and steer us onto that.
01:20Yeah.
01:20So the other day, the weirdest movie I've seen,
01:23or yeah, the maddest movie,
01:25I thought it was joyful in that way.
01:27Was it like the maddest kind of film and experience
01:31you've been on?
01:32You look like you're having the most fun,
01:33I think, you've ever had on camera.
01:35I think it's the most fun I've ever had on a set
01:37in terms of just like laughter.
01:40We laughed all day long.
01:42And Paul made a really good point
01:43talking about it the other day,
01:44where he was like, normally you go off to your trailers
01:47and everyone sort of like spends
01:49kind of their social time separately.
01:52We always all just went straight back
01:54under the same sort of like tent on the stages
01:56that we shot and we just hung out.
01:58And so like the joking around and the laughter
02:01and the fun that we had as a group,
02:03just sort of bled onto set
02:05and then bled back into our like social time
02:08with each other.
02:08And it was just like one big laugh.
02:11It was great.
02:12I think you're an actor who has,
02:14probably a person who has quite funny bones.
02:17I know you kind of got your start in comedy.
02:18There was like the school of comedy
02:20and like we're the Millers
02:22and we saw you as just like a comic actor
02:24and then you hit us with like Detroit
02:27and everything you've done since then.
02:29And it makes me wonder,
02:30do you see yourself as kind of a comic actor
02:34who excels in drama now
02:37or a dramatic actor who excels in comedy
02:40or like neither of the above?
02:43Yeah, I don't know if I excel in anything,
02:44but I love doing both.
02:47I just know that I love both.
02:50You know, I think like,
02:51yeah, I definitely kind of,
02:52I guess my roots are in comedy,
02:54but I think I probably have more of a passion for drama.
02:57Same time, it's so hard to sort of deny the idea that,
03:03you know, doing another comedy wouldn't be so much fun,
03:07just given the experience I had on Death of a Unicorn.
03:09Death of a Unicorn kind of sort of helped me
03:11kind of like fall back in love with comedy in a way.
03:14Because I think the way I've always described it,
03:16it's like in an odd way,
03:17comedy kind of purged me of my sort of positive emotions.
03:21And then I would come home at the end of the day
03:22and feel really like knackered and depleted.
03:24Drama did the opposite,
03:25where it was quite kind of therapeutic.
03:28I'd get those negative emotions off my chest
03:30and then I'd come home kind of more lighthearted.
03:32But Death of a Unicorn was different.
03:35Just had fun all the time, loved it.
03:37Couldn't wait to go to work the next day.
03:39And that's in large part thanks to our great director
03:42and lovely cast.
03:45I think working with someone like Paul Rudd
03:47is a good example of that.
03:49I mean, he was kind of pigeonholed
03:51as a sort of like a comic actor for many years,
03:53but then he's been so brilliant in some dramatic roles.
03:56Working with someone like that, observing someone like that,
03:58getting to know and watching someone like that
03:59must be quite like nourishing for you.
04:02Definitely, man, and inspirational.
04:04He's got such an extraordinary career
04:06and he's done comedy and drama for a long time,
04:08regardless of what he's been sort of better known for.
04:12And I think he probably is an advocate of this as well.
04:16The idea that like behind sort of the funniest characters,
04:19there is like a truth.
04:20There is like a, if you like, like a dramatic foundation.
04:23I think he always identifies that,
04:26even when he's playing really, really silly characters.
04:31I think he's a very, very smart performer above all else.
04:35The thing he did on Netflix when he played like
04:37Oh my God, Living With Yourself.
04:38Oh my God, that was so good.
04:39Unbelievable, man.
04:40And I've got to wrap up,
04:41and I know you won't be able to tell me much about this,
04:42but obviously no news on the old Marvel front at the moment.
04:45But going forward, would you be a bit disappointed?
04:47Would there be two Avengers movies go by
04:49and no new sort of Guardians there?
04:52Oh, look, I would love to do it again.
04:56You know, I had a blast doing Guardians
04:59and playing Adam Warlock.
05:00So I'd love to do it again.
05:01If they call, I'll pick up.
05:03Very coy.
05:05That's the truth.
05:06I actually don't know.
05:07It's not like I'm sitting on any aces, I promise you.
05:10Oh, we'll see.
05:10We'll see.
05:10Watch this space.
05:11Congratulations, mate.
05:12Another couple of bangers.
05:13Looking forward to seeing what you do next.
05:15One of the good guys.
05:16Thanks so much, bro.
05:17And I'll see you down the road.
05:18Yeah, I hope so, mate.
05:19Cheers.
