Burnley FC Writer Matt Scrafton gives his verdict on the 1-0 win against Coventry City on April 5, 2025.
Transcript
00:00Just heading out to the stadium here in Coventry, where Burnley have just claimed an absolutely massive 2-1 win.
00:08Hard to underestimate just how big this win is.
00:11Every win is significant at this stage of the season, but the manner of this one is really satisfying.
00:16If anything, you take greater satisfaction from this win than you did last week.
00:19Burnley played some really good stuff and probably should have won 3 or 4-0 against Bristol City.
00:23Ends up winning 1-0.
00:25Today it's another close margin 2-1, but the manner of it, second half,
00:29really had to dig deep. It was ugly at times, it wasn't pretty at all.
00:32But Burnley, as we've seen all season, are more than capable of sitting back for 30-40 minutes if needed,
00:38and seeing it out.
00:40Great character on the show.
00:42Went 1-0 down after 6 minutes to a hugely controversial goal.
00:46Hadji Wright was clearly offside.
00:49Bit of some confusion afterwards, it seemed to go on for a minute or so.
00:52Conversations have aligned, we know the referee, players,
00:54went straight over to the officials.
00:57That was allowed to stand.
00:59Would have been easy.
01:01Sort of feel a sense of injustice and feel hard done by.
01:04But that didn't happen at all.
01:06Burnley took just 10 minutes to get an equaliser.
01:09Hujain Anthony, his first of the afternoon, his first of two.
01:13Well worked goal down the right and Anthony was there to tap home.
01:16And then, start of second half, Burnley were gifted a second goal.
01:21Saying that, Anthony still does a good job chasing down lost goals.
01:24He was there to pounce at the right time as the keeper and the defender had a bit of a mix-up between them,
01:29didn't take control of the situation.
01:32And that was 2-1 lead gifted to them, as I said,
01:34and the rest of the half was pretty much all commentary in terms of possession.
01:38Don't recall too many chances or clear opportunities,
01:43but it was nervy, it was gritty, it was hauling on at times,
01:47lots of balls, long throws into the box.
01:49But they stood up to it, as they always do.
01:51And with Leeds being held at Luton, they now go above them.
01:56As I'm speaking, Burnley are top of the league.
01:58Sheffield United are currently playing against Oxford, so we'll see how that goes.
02:02But another big, big weekend for Burnley.
02:06A lot would have been taken out of them, mentally and physically,
02:10if they had to go again for Derby on Tuesday, which would be another difficult one.
02:14Because they're in good form, despite being down at the bottom of the table.
02:17So, yeah, look forward to that one.
