Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh: A horrifying case of domestic violence has emerged from Gwalior’s Shinde Ki Chhawani area, where a 70-year-old woman, Sarla Batra, was viciously assaulted by her daughter-in-law, while her son, Vishal Batra, was also beaten by the woman's relatives. The entire assault was captured on CCTV, but shockingly, police registered an FIR only four days after the incident.

The attack, triggered by a minor household argument, reportedly stemmed from ongoing tensions over property. According to Sarla, her daughter-in-law Neelika has long been pressuring her and frequently engages in heated confrontations. Around 2 p.m. on the day of the incident, a fight escalated, prompting Neelika to call her father, Surendra Kohli, and brother, Nanak Kohli. Accompanied by four other men, they allegedly stormed into the house, hurled abuses, and began thrashing Vishal.

When Sarla attempted to intervene, Neelika allegedly pushed her to the ground, kicked her, and slammed her head against the wall. The violence didn’t stop there—CCTV footage shows Neelika dragging her elderly mother-in-law by the hair, while her family members continued to beat Vishal.

Despite immediate efforts by the victims to file a complaint at Inderganj Police Station, officers reportedly delayed action, even after being shown CCTV evidence. It was only after the matter was taken up with senior officials that an FIR was finally filed.

Inderganj CSP Robin Jain confirmed that the case has now been registered and the footage is under review. "A formal complaint has been lodged regarding physical violence. Preliminary information suggests the incident stemmed from a family dispute," he said.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation and renewed calls for swift justice and accountability in domestic abuse cases—regardless of the gender of the victim or perpetrator.
