I take a look around Cuerden Valley Park, Lancashire
Transcript
00:00This video is all about Kewden Valley Park. It's a 650 acre site on an area just down the outside of Bamber Bridge that many of you will know.
00:12And I actually grew up for the first 10 years of my life living on a housing estate called May Park right next door to it.
00:20So I'm very familiar with it, but I haven't been back for quite a while.
00:24Although I have been back with my son quite a few times, but there's been loads of changes.
00:29So I went back this last weekend and here's just some of the things that I noticed.
00:35So first up is parking. When I was a kid, we just used to walk there.
00:40But now we've driven and there are several different car parks.
00:45There's AMPR machines that are scanning your edge and you pay then at one of these machines.
00:52We paid £1.50 for one and a half hours, but the most you will pay for over three and a half hours is £4.50.
00:59Now, some people will question why you're having to pay to park.
01:02Well, that's because it costs £1,600 a day to run the park and this all helps.
01:09When I was a kid, there wasn't a cafe there. That's a recent thing.
01:12And there certainly wasn't one of these coffee vans available, which is a really nice way to start your walk off with a coffee.
01:19I think my son had like a millionaire shortbread.
01:22And this is a new path that's been created from the top of the car park down to about two thirds of the way into the walk
01:32and towards the woodland side where you can go up the hill into the woods.
01:37There's also the River Lostock there. I actually did my GCSE geography coursework based on the River Lostock.
01:45You can take in so many different terrains that you can go walking off piste.
01:51There's the lake, there's fields. Keep your dog on the lead in the fields because there are cattle.
01:57And there's so much more to do now. There's areas where you can go and celebrate your pet's life.
02:04You can scatter ashes. There's wildflower meadows, plenty of benches to sit on, have picnics.
02:11There's a little forge you can go through through the river.
02:14Like I say, loads of woodland, bluebells, snowdrops, the lake.
02:20So it's a beautiful place to go and visit with all the family, with your dog. Just go and enjoy it.
