Say what you will about love teams, but it has always been a defining part of Filipino pop culture. The clamor to repeatedly watch two actors bringing to life a heart-stopping romance, albeit different versions of it, is all too prevalent that it has been a staple in local cinema for almost a century now.

Of these pairings, one of the most successful tie-ups would have to be ‪@jolinanetwork‬ and ‪@MarvinAgustinbaYUMMYhan‬. Standing the test of time, the tandem of our February 2025 cover stars has enamored fans since the '90s. "Their on-screen chemistry defined a generation—and decades later, that impact still resonates," Preview's Editor-in-Chief Marj Ramos-Clemente said, sharing how the cover for this year's Love Month came about. Press play to experience the iconic love team's chemistry!

01:00Hi Preview!
01:02Hi Preview!
01:03Welcome to our set for our Preview cover this February.
01:07Hi!
01:08Yay!
01:09We're a cover!
01:10Love Month!
01:11Yay!
01:12Love you!
01:13Thank you!
01:14Thank you!
01:15For our February cover, we wanted to show the fantasy that goes behind a love theme
01:23like Marvin and Jolina.
01:25So for the photos, it looks like a film set, it looks like a fake set, but we wanted to
01:31show that it's somewhere where they can be their real selves.
01:35We got Brenda Navarro to photograph the cover, so we intentionally made the framing wide
01:41so it feels more cinematic.
01:43We got a lot of references from foreign and local musicals.
01:48That's why the poses are mostly dancing and they feel theatrical.
01:52We got the help of Mads Reyes for this, she was super good, as in it was such a joy just
01:57watching her dance and direct Marvin and Jolina.
02:01The energy at the shoot was super charged because everyone was just so excited to experience
02:08firsthand the cinematic chemistry of Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdalena.
02:13Bringing their cinematic magic to life, we transformed the ballroom into multiple sets
02:17and Jess Dizon of Purple Studios helped with that.
02:21We wanted a space that was big enough so we can make the layout transitions fast.
02:25And luckily, Crown Plaza's ballroom was not only spacious enough, they also had a team
02:30behind them who made sure that everything for our shoot was seamless and ironed out.
02:36They kept us well-fed and well-caffeinated all throughout the shoot and it was really
02:39well-appreciated because it was a long day and we really needed the energy.
02:44So for our cover shoot with Marvin and Jolina, we really wanted to lean into vintage styling
02:50and we wanted to focus on clean, structured silhouettes, but something that feels more
02:55relaxed given that this whole concept revolves around partner dances.
03:00So for instance, in the first cover, we had Jolina wear a white silk gown by Donna Lim
03:07and to match that look, we had Marvin wear a fitted short-sleeved button-down with white
03:14trousers, something that feels like someone would wear to a tap dance performance.
03:19And similarly, for the cover layout, we wanted to match that dim, cinematic feel of the setting.
03:26So we really matched the palette to that, so we had Marvin wear this plaid blazer from
03:34Fendi, and to match that, we had Jolina wear a checked, Chinese-colored blazer from Barela,
03:42which we paired with a flowing bubble skirt from Donna Lim.
03:47And for the last layout, where we see them dancing by a lamp post, we specifically wanted
03:52to reference Singing in the Rain for this look, and we thought, what better way to have
03:57them wear matching outfits?
03:59For that look specifically, we also thought that the iconic trench coats from Burberry
04:05would perfectly match the entire layout.
04:11Love is amazing.
04:13Tell us the truth about your feelings.
04:15I didn't expect her to have such a strong sense of humor.
04:18I don't have a sense of humor when I'm alone, but I also miss pictorials and pictures like that.
04:24Mm-hmm.
04:26Ay, mm-mm.
04:28I like it because you said the set was beautiful, right?
04:30The set was beautiful.
04:31The line-up was beautiful.
04:32I like those kinds of pictures, those that are cinematic.
04:36Mm-hmm.
04:37It's very...
04:39It's very elevating.
04:41It's very elevating.
04:44We're like models.
04:49Oh, I like it.
04:51I also like this kind of look.
04:53I want it to be vintage, vintage.
04:55And it also matches my hair.
04:59You're the one who matches our look the most.
05:03You too.
05:04Really?
05:05It's like I'm just sleeping.
05:06Ay, no.
05:07It's beautiful.
05:08I'm telling you, this looks good on you because you're just cute.
05:11It looks good on you.
05:14Is that the 80s? 70s?
05:1620s?
05:17No, what is this?
05:1860s.
05:1960s?
05:20Really?
05:21It looks like that.
05:22More like 20s.
05:23Since I'm getting older?
05:24Yes.
05:25You're already 60.
05:28So, resume.
05:30Resume.
05:31Let's do it.
05:32Let's do it.
05:33I want to feel it some more.
05:35More layouts.
05:36Okay, for our last...
05:37Oh, it's the last one.
05:38For our last few layouts.
05:40I'm excited about what we're going to wear next.
05:43In this cover story, we looked at the bigger picture of love team culture, which is a very
05:50unique concept to Philippine pop culture as a whole.
05:53Marvin and Jolina, I would say, are kind of like the paradigm of their generation, especially
05:58at the peak of their popularity in the 90s, when they were really everywhere.
06:02Regardless of how people view it, it speaks to how much of a big deal love teams are across
06:07generations, and how much of a staple it is in our culture as a society, who values romance
06:13as a genre.
06:14This is still reflected today, and Marvin and Jolina play an important role in it.
06:18We also debuted a new way of presenting our stories with a dynamic cover story for this
06:23one, which also features the photos, videos that look like moving photos, behind-the-scenes
06:28pictures, which really makes the story come alive, and it makes for an immersive reading
06:33experience.
06:34For Marvin and Jolina's fashion film, we wanted to highlight their genuine connection
06:41by having them engaged in a conversation and asking each other meaningful questions.
06:47One of the things people love about their love team is how genuine and real their interactions
06:52feel.
06:53Like, you can really see the affection and care they have for each other.
06:56We also wanted to highlight how love isn't always romantic.
07:00Sometimes, the love between longtime friends can be even deeper and more enduring.
