00:05 GMA's Maria Clara Tibara really did wonders
00:08 for the career of David Licauco.
00:10 So it might seem to many like he was an overnight success,
00:15 but he's actually been in the industry for almost a decade,
00:19 I believe.
00:19 It's been quite a long time coming for David,
00:23 but he's managed to reach a point in his career
00:26 where he is now the most bankable
00:28 leading man of his generation.
00:30 For the cover image, we chose something
00:34 that's dynamic, where you see him running towards the camera
00:37 wearing a suit paired with slippers.
00:40 Quite an unconventional look, but he managed to pull it off.
00:43 I think my favorite part about the cover look
00:46 was he's wearing this Tom Brown Hector dog
00:49 bag, which is super cute.
00:51 And it's quite hard to pull off.
00:54 But on David, it looks really good.
00:56 For the other layouts, he wore outfits from Prada, Boss,
01:00 Burberry, Calvin Klein, Massimo Dutti.
01:04 Overall, the idea was for him to exude this '80s, '90s action
01:11 star energy.
01:12 And he did it.
01:13 He understood the memo.
01:14 And when he was at the shoot, he was very much in character.
01:19 David is currently shooting for his teleserial.
01:22 And on the day of the shoot, they
01:25 wrapped up at 4 in the morning.
01:26 So he and our grooming contrib, Nathan Farallino,
01:31 only had a few hours of sleep.
01:33 But then when they went to the shoot, they were so game.
01:36 They were so energetic.
01:38 And it really reflects in the photos.
01:40 So one thing, it was really hot.
01:43 But what was so impressive was that during the shoot,
01:46 we didn't hear any complaint or anything whatsoever from David.
01:50 He was so game.
01:51 And we really appreciate that.
01:53 For this shoot, we were working with one
01:55 of our favorite photographers, Renzo Navarro.
01:57 And as always, he really makes sure
01:59 to go the extra mile to capture the scenes that
02:02 were included in the deck.
02:03 And you can say that it's almost serendipitous.
02:06 Our friends from Rocket Sets were
02:07 the ones who introduced us to the complex where we shot in.
02:12 The overall direction for our October cover shoot
02:14 is based on '90s Asian films and action films.
02:18 A lot of our references are based on old images
02:21 of Takeshi Kaneshiro.
02:23 We also reference stills from Asian films and animes.
02:27 For the photos, we really tried to achieve
02:29 a film-like treatment.
02:30 So the textures were really like screenshots from old movies.
02:35 And then we tried not to rely on studio lights.
02:39 We mainly used natural light.
02:41 So for each layout, the lighting was different.
02:43 The color treatment was different.
02:45 David reminds me a lot of those guys
02:50 you'd see in the hallways, those jocks
02:52 that run the school in their varsity jackets.
02:55 But he's anything but intimidating.
02:57 He's actually very endearing.
02:58 And that's what makes him such a charming personality nowadays.
03:03 Throughout the shoot, he would engage in small talk
03:05 as about our day, about our jobs.
03:08 And then during our interview, he
03:09 was very open about the showbiz industry
03:11 and how it works in certain ways.
03:14 He didn't mince words.
03:15 And I appreciated that because coming
03:17 from this guy who is a next-generation matinee idol,
03:21 as we said in the cover story, David really
03:23 does know his audience.
03:25 And he knows how to appeal to them in the best way he can.
03:28 And that's a good sign of someone who's going to last long.
03:31 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
03:35 He's doing this because it's a job, of course.
03:36 But he's also doing this because he
03:38 knows what he can offer to the industry and to his audiences.
03:42 And it was a pretty fun conversation to have with him.
03:45 I got to really peel away at the layers
03:47 and see this David Lecalco who's, at the end of the day,
03:51 just an entrepreneur, a businessman,
03:53 but also someone who's just working towards their dreams,
03:56 someone who's not afraid to take risks,
03:58 and also someone who is just having fun with it.
04:01 So I was really lucky to see that side of David.
04:03 And I hope our audiences, you guys, our readers,
04:06 get to see it as well through the cover story,
04:08 through the images.
