00:00Hi, my name's Jack Marshall. I'm a digital food and drink reporter and welcome to another one of our food reviews.
00:06Now, I had an email recently from Papa John's Pizza and they got in touch just to let loads of journalists across the country know about a couple of their new pizzas which they're releasing.
00:17Now, everyone loves pizza. It's one of those go-to takeaway foods.
00:20So they've obviously got all the classics covered in their usual menu, but they just wanted to get in touch to let us know that they've got a couple of things which are slightly different.
00:27One of them is like a tweak on a classic. Another one is just a complete reinvention, reimagination of what a pizza can be.
00:33Now, those two new pizzas, well, one of them was baked cheese.
00:36So obviously you get your usual cheese on pizzas, but this went another level in the sense that it was baked on top.
00:42Extra cheese, extra flavour, extra kind of depth in the taste of the cheese.
00:45And the second one was a cheeseburger pizza, which was essentially cheeseburger kind of toppings.
00:52We weren't literally seeing any burger meat in this.
00:54It was something a little different, but cheeseburger vibes to a pizza.
00:58Now, I was pretty curious about this, so I thought, right, I'm going to have to try each of these pizzas.
01:02But even food reporters like myself can't have two pizzas in one sitting.
01:07So I thought I'll have them one at a time and bring kind of feedback into you guys and let you know what I thought of them.
01:12So I started off with a classic and I had the baked cheese pizza myself last night.
01:17And yeah, it was good. I did enjoy the added depth of the pizza itself.
01:22You could definitely taste the difference in the fact that the cheese wasn't just your typical cheese that you'd normally get on a pizza.
01:30It was all about like you could feel the sharpness of the cheddar.
01:33You could feel like the kind of an extra layer of crispiness to it.
01:37You could tell it had been baked as well. So that was actually quite a nice touch.
01:40I enjoyed it. It was good. Is it different enough to really kind of convert me and think I can only have baked cheese pizzas from here on in?
01:49Probably not. I do like the classic stringiness, but it was a nice touch.
01:53It was a nice kind of swivel from the classic. So that was good.
01:58Just something else I want to review on the Papa John's front.
02:00I'm not really someone who has had many Papa John's pizzas in my time.
02:05So I thought I'll explore a bit and try a few of their other things on the menu in the form of whatever dips they had.
02:11And then the classic garlic and herb, which was nice. It was good. It was a classic for a reason.
02:15I thought I'd try a couple of other ones.
02:16One was a buffalo sauce, which was okay. It was a little saccharine, a little sickly, a little bit too much after a few bites.
02:22Like I didn't really want to dip my crusts in it anymore. I was sticking to the garlic.
02:26And then the other one was sweet and sour, which just didn't work for me at all.
02:29That's just a personal opinion. I didn't like it. It just didn't taste nice. It tasted a bit plasticky.
02:34It tasted very artificial. So yeah, that's a no-go from me, I'm afraid.
02:40But yeah, pleased to have tried something a bit different in the form of Papa John's baked pizza.
02:45Like I say, a bit of a twist on a classic. Good to get in the weeds and try these kind of things.
