00:00Hello and welcome to your economic meeting on Médien.
00:12We start with national news.
00:14The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water announces
00:18the commissioning of a new sea water discharge station
00:21to secure drinking water supply in the city of Sidi Ifni
00:26and neighboring towns in the provinces of Sidi Ifni and Tiznit.
00:30As a result of an investment of nearly 320 million dirhams,
00:34the project, carried out by LONI and financed by a loan from the German Development Bank,
00:38consists in its first phase in the construction of a discharge station
00:42with a capacity exceeding 8,000 m3 per day, i.e. 100 liters per second.
00:47This project uses the reverse osmosis technique and exploits the latest technologies
00:52in energy recovery to optimize the production cost of 1 m3 of saline water.
00:58As part of the National Water Supply Programme 2020-2027,
01:05this new station will allow to safely discharge an estimated population of 85,000 inhabitants
01:12and to relieve the pressure on the Jusef Benteschwin dam used until then for this purpose.
01:18Let's stay in the kingdom where travel revenues reached 15.75 billion dirhams at the end of February 2025.
01:25This was revealed by the Bulletin of the Exchange Office on the monthly indicators of foreign exchanges.
01:31This is an increase of 2.8%, i.e. 428 million dirhams compared to the same period a year earlier.
01:39As for travel expenses, they rose to nearly 5 billion dirhams, an increase of 27%.
01:45Thus, travel revenues exceeded 10.76 billion dirhams at the end of February 2025,
01:52a 5.6% decrease compared to a year earlier.
01:56Let's remember that last February, Morocco welcomed about 1.4 million tourists
02:01compared to 1.15 million a year earlier, an increase of 22%.
02:06Still in Africa, the 20 main African waste-producing countries
02:10generate between 0.52 and 1.67 kilograms of waste per inhabitant per day,
02:16according to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and the United Nations Environment Programme.
02:22With an average production of municipal solid waste varying from 0.15 kilograms per day per inhabitant in Laos
02:29to more than 2 kilograms in Luxembourg, waste management crystallizes global inequalities.
02:35This topic is topical, especially in this period when Ramadan is coming to an end.
02:40Several major cities, such as Tunisia, Le Carre, Casablanca or Agadir,
02:44see their volume of waste increase from 20% to 30%, or even more, during the holy month
02:49due to collective meals and overconsumption.
02:52While Africa faces accelerated urbanization and unprecedented demographic growth,
02:57municipal solid waste management becomes a critical issue.
03:01According to data from 2024 of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development
03:06and the United Nations Environment Programme,
03:08the 20 main African waste-producing countries per inhabitant
03:13reveal complex dynamics where economic performance, environmental pressure and social inequality are intertwined.
03:20Direction the United States, the American president announced an additional 25% tax on foreign cars
03:27which must come into force on April 3.
03:29Trump said last Saturday that he does not care at all about the possible increase in car prices in the United States
03:35due to the imposition of customs rights on vehicles and certain imported parts.
03:40This statement comes a few days after the Wall Street Journal reported
03:45that the American president had threatened the leaders of the automotive sector to compensate in the event of a price increase.
03:51Customs rights on car parts from Mexico and Canada,
03:55covered by the US-Mexico-Canada agreement, will be delayed,
03:59but the situation remains uncertain for mixed supply chains.
04:03The president of the United States intends to stimulate American production
04:07and save the national automotive industry,
04:10but the course of actions of the largest American car manufacturers
04:14have already been affected by these announcements
04:16and experts fear a price increase for buyers.
04:20We close this economic newspaper in Korea,
04:22where the number of investors in cryptocurrency has crossed the 16 million mark,
04:27approaching the number of stock investors.
04:29At the end of February, 16 million people owned accounts on the five main platforms
04:34of national digital asset exchanges,
04:36namely Abbitt, Bithumb, Coinone, Corbit and Gopax.
04:41These figures account for a single registration per person,
04:44even if they own several accounts on different platforms.
04:47As a result, nearly 32% of the country's total population,
04:51or 51 million, is now participating in the cryptocurrency market.
04:55The number of cryptocurrency investors has crossed the 14 million mark for the first time
05:00in March 2024.
05:02Some sector representatives predict that the number of cryptocurrency investors
05:06will soon reach 20 million in Korea,
05:09given the continuous rise trend observed this year.
