00:00Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining us on Mediam and welcome to this new weekly
00:12economic news bulletin.
00:14Before we start, know that in Morocco, the amount of Zakat Salfit has been established
00:18at 23 dirhams per person for this year.
00:20The Superior Council of Zulema specifies that this zakat corresponds to a prophetic
00:25amount of 400, that is, about 2.5 kilograms of cereals or flour.
00:30It can be poured 2 to 3 days before the Eid and can also be adjusted in the form of
00:35money.
00:36Note that people able to do so can give an amount or a higher amount.
00:41Economic news this week is also if Morocco is affected by drought, which will have to
00:48import throughout the year.
00:50It is the observation of the National Cereals Office which indicates that Morocco will extend
00:55its current subsidy program for tender wheat imports until December 31.
01:00According to the Office, the new cycle of subsidies for imports will extend from May 1
01:05to December 31.
01:06During the last two years, the Kingdom has bet on massive wheat purchases in response
01:11to prolonged drought.
01:13Last year, Moroccan production of tender wheat, hard wheat and barley rose to 3.1 million
01:19tons, a 43% drop from previous harvest.
01:24Still in the agricultural field, Morocco plays a major role in the Spanish market.
01:31Moroccan exports of fruits and vegetables to Spain recorded a 4% increase in 2024.
01:38According to recent data from the Spanish Federation of Fruit and Vegetable Producers
01:44more than 455,000 tons of Moroccan agricultural products were exported to Spain the previous year.
01:51This performance represents a turnover of nearly a billion euros.
01:55France remains the main supplier of vegetables in the Spanish market, with more than 1.1 million
02:01tons exported the previous year.
02:03French expeditions have recorded a 19% increase in volume and 16% in value, reaching 523 million euros.
02:13And then there is an unprecedented agreement, the one just signed by two telecommunications operators.
02:21MarocTelecom and Inuit announce the signing of a partnership agreement aimed at accelerating
02:26the deployment of 5G optical fiber on the territory of the Kingdom.
02:31The signing of this agreement was approved by the Council of Surveillance of MarocTelecom
02:36and the Council of Administration of Inuit.
02:38In concrete terms, the two operators are committed to mutualizing their passive telecommunications infrastructures
02:44by creating two joint ventures, namely a Fiberco and a Touerco,
02:48dedicated to the acceleration of the deployment of optical fiber with a target of 1 million
02:54takes in two years and 3 million takes in five years.
02:58For the first phase of three years, the planned investment is 4.4 billion dirhams.
03:05Internationally, energy consumption in the world has always progressed more in 2024
03:12than in the previous decade.
03:15According to the annual report of the International Energy Agency,
03:18the evolution of these demands was 2.2% in 2024,
03:22almost twice as much as the average of the previous ten years between 2013 and 2023.
03:28For the first time, the share of oil has fallen below 30%, 50 years after a peak at 46%.
03:36Electricity consumption has climbed by more than 4%,
03:40which represents 1,100 additional TWh,
03:43which is more than Japan's annual consumption.
03:46The International Energy Agency sees in this electric boom
03:50the consequence of an increased demand for cooling due to record temperatures,
03:55but also due to growing needs in the industry of data centers,
03:59artificial intelligence and transportation electrification.
04:06In international economic news this week,
04:09the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD
04:13surpassed its American rival Tesla in 2024
04:16with a record turnover above the symbolic $100 billion mark.
04:22The leading Chinese electric vehicle company
04:25recorded a turnover of 777.1 billion yuan,
04:30$67.2 billion the previous year,
04:34exceeding the $97.7 billion announced by Tesla during the same period.
04:40This figure is 29% higher than in 2023.
04:44The publication of this report comes as BYD is under the spotlight
04:48after unveiling last week
04:51a new battery technology that allows ultra-fast charging.
04:55The Chinese company introduced a new charging system called Super e-Platform,
05:00allowing cars to recover up to 470 km of autonomy
05:05after being plugged in for only 5 minutes.
05:08They offer up to 1,000 kW of peak power
05:12against only 500 kW for Tesla superchargers.
05:19In the United States, the U.S. Department of Commerce
05:22has announced the addition of about 50 companies,
05:25mainly Chinese, Iranian and Emirati,
05:28to its list of companies to which semiconductor exports
05:32are limited or prohibited.
05:34Washington justifies its decision
05:36by saying that the activities of these companies
05:39would be contrary to international policy
05:41and national security of the United States.
05:43The addition of this list imposes on American companies
05:46to obtain a pre-agreement from the U.S. government
05:49before exporting its semiconductors to the targeted companies.
05:53Washington has so far imposed restrictions
05:56on more than 150 Chinese companies,
05:58both regarding semiconductors
06:00and the equipment needed to produce them.
06:03China has systematically condemned these restrictions
06:06and decided last September to replicate,
06:09imposing restrictions against the United States
06:12on the materials and components
06:14necessary for the manufacture of semiconductors.
06:17We come to the end of our weekly edition.
06:19Thank you for your loyalty.
06:21Good luck with the program on Medium.
