00:00Why does it seem like the Lions signed so many people in the secondary this year and
00:05Where is everybody gonna play? Let's talk about it
00:11Hi my paper a Z Sports Detroit today
00:14we're going to talk about all the cornerbacks that the Lions signed in free agency and
00:20why some of them might not be playing exactly where you think they're gonna be playing so
00:25Obviously DJ Reed was the big signing for the Lions this offseason
00:30huge after losing Carlton Davis to get read at
00:3420 million dollars less than Davis a player who was probably
00:38Probably better probably as good or better equal or better than what Carlton Davis is
00:44That was a huge deal for the Lions really good work by them
00:48after that
00:49There's Rakia sin, there's a Vontae Maddox. There was some of the guys that they had brought back
00:55with Khalil Dorsey and
00:58You know you start to wonder like where all these guys kind of fit and and don't forget about the guy that they lost
01:04Other than Carlton Davis if he to Milo fan who he plays for the Dolphins now
01:08So what are the Lions gonna do in the secondary? I?
01:12think and
01:14History will kind of show that at least one of the players that they brought in and that's a Vontae Maddox is not going to
01:20Be a cornerback. He's gonna be a safety if you look back at how the Eagles have used him over the past few years
01:26He has been used almost
01:28Half the time as a safety sometimes even as a linebacker for the Eagles last year. He played eight
01:34Games as a safety out of the 17 games that he played last season
01:38So I think the Lions are looking at him as their number three safety who can come in be a veteran guy
01:45help out some of those younger guys like Maurice Norris or
01:49Lauren Strickland two guys that undrafted guys that they the Lions I think see a lot in but just need some more time to
01:57Work out and I think that's where Maddox comes in at safety and then from there
02:03You move Amik Robertson back to the slot you move Brian branch back up to safety
02:08So it's branch and Joseph at your two safeties
02:11Maddox your number three
02:14Strickland Norris, those are your safeties at corner
02:17You've got your your CB one as DJ Reed
02:20Your cornerback two is Terry and Arnold your slot Amik Robertson and then at four
02:26You've got a guy in Ennis rake straw who was supposed to be a starter last year had he not got hurt
02:32He could come in and kind of be that
02:34Slot corner, which is what they were trying to get him to be but also could be an outside guy
02:39he's a perfect cornerback for who could potentially
02:43Be more in the future Robertson's only got one more year left on his deal
02:47I think the Lions might want to try to keep him
02:50They probably should but if they feel the rake straws good enough to go and replace him in 2026 at that slot position
02:58I think you'll probably see that and then
03:01Where Kendall Vildor is it was another guy who left where he was
03:06that's where you fill in rock you sin a
03:09perfect
03:10CB5 guy who can come in rotate around
03:15Can play slot can play outside can do anything that you need him to do
03:19But you kind of hope he never has to play right like he's more he's gonna be more on special teams
03:24And then obviously Khalil Dorsey
03:26kick returner
03:28Really good gunner special teams guy
03:31There's there's a reason he's here and it's not so much to play corner on defense
03:35it's to be a tremendous special teams player like he has been so
03:39That's making sense of all these signings that they've done in the secondary
03:42I know everybody wants to edge rusher and I think that's what they're gonna be doing in the draft
03:46I wouldn't be surprised if they trade it up for one or it took more than one
03:51That's probably the route they're gonna go
03:53Until then I think they've got a much better secondary than they had last year and they had the secondary that allowed the second fewest
04:01touchdowns in the NFL last season, so
04:04Things are moving upwards for Detroit and we will see where things go and we'll see you next time
