Gonda, Uttar Pradesh – The gruesome Meerut murder case has now become a chilling metaphor for threats, as a junior engineer (JE) in Jal Nigam, Dharmendra Kushwaha, alleged that his wife, Maya Maurya, threatened to chop him up and store his body in a drum. A video of the alleged threat has gone viral on social media.
Both Kushwaha and Maya lodged police complaints against each other on Saturday, with the police stating that appropriate action will be taken after an investigation.
Husband’s Allegations:
Kushwaha, a native of Jhansi, claims that he had a love marriage with Maya in 2016. Over the years, he bought cars and land in her name and entrusted the construction of their house to her relative, Neeraj Maurya. He alleges that Maya and Neeraj became closer after Neeraj’s wife passed away during COVID-19, and their relationship turned into an affair.
On July 7, 2024, Kushwaha allegedly caught them in a compromising situation, after which he was assaulted and Maya left home. She allegedly returned on August 25, 2024, with Neeraj, broke the lock, and stole gold and cash.
Kushwaha claimed that on March 29, 2025, Maya threatened to kill his mother and attacked both of them along with Neeraj. During the altercation, she allegedly said, "If you speak too much, I will get you chopped and packed in a drum like the Meerut massacre."
Wife Refutes Allegations:
Maya, on the other hand, has dismissed her husband's accusations, claiming that he had been harassing her for years. She alleged that Kushwaha forced her to have four abortions and physically assaulted her in July 2024, prompting her to file a case at the women’s police station. She further claimed that he later filed for divorce and forced her out of the house.
Police Investigation Underway:
Kotwali Police Station SHO Vivek Trivedi confirmed that there are ongoing legal proceedings between the couple. The police are investigating the viral video and examining both parties' claims before taking further action.
