Meerut: A 35-year-old merchant navy officer, Saurabh Rajput, was brutally murdered by his estranged wife and her lover just days after he returned from London to celebrate his wife’s birthday. The crime took place on March 4 in Meerut’s Brahmpuri area, and Rajput's dismembered body was discovered nearly 15 days later inside a cement-filled drum in his rented apartment, police said.
The accused, Muskan Rastogi and her lover Sahil Shukla alias Mohit, allegedly killed Rajput, chopped his body into multiple pieces, and sealed them inside a water drum filled with cement to accelerate decomposition, SP City Ayush Vikram Singh said. Police were alerted after neighbors reported a foul smell from the house, leading to the gruesome discovery on Tuesday.
Muskan and Saurabh had married in 2016 against their families’ wishes and were living in a rented apartment with their six-year-old daughter. Investigators believe the duo killed Rajput on March 4 before leaving for a trip to the hills. To avoid suspicion, Muskan allegedly used Rajput’s phone to send messages to his family, misleading them into believing he was still alive while ignoring their requests for a direct conversation.
The accused have been arrested and charged with murder and destruction of evidence. They will be presented before the court on Wednesday.
